  • synecdoches plural

    • A figure of speech in which a part is made to represent the whole or vice versa, as in Cleveland won by six runs (meaning “Cleveland's baseball team”)

      • Example: Check out my new wheels! (Wheels, only a part of a car, represent the whole thing)

      • Example: All hands on deck! (Meaning everyone needs to come on the deck of the ship and help--the hands representing the whole body)
