There are two main web apps on eBAGIS: AOI Browser and SNODAS Tools. The AOI Browser allows users to:
Managing BAGIS AOI Repository on eBAGIS Sever.
Interfacing Desktop BAGIS with eBAGIS Server for users to access AOI data in the Repository.
Whereas the SNODAS Tools provides users access to SNODAS data summarized for AOIs.
Users can access eBAGIS AOI Repository using the eBAGIS AOI Browser page on the PSU GIS Server (http://webservices.geog.pdx.edu/ebagis)
The main purpose of the eBAGIS AOI Repository is to store AOIs in a central location that is accessible by all users. NWCC organizational users are allowed to upload or manage AOIs. An AOI is a collection of GIS layers that are created in BAGIS and can be used in BAGIS, BAGIS-H, or BAGIS-P for analysis for a specific geographic area, usually a coherent drainage watershed of a USGS gauge station. A gauge station is also known as a watershed pour point or a water forecast point.
Users must have the BAGIS addins installed on ArcGIS Desktop to use AOI data. To maintain the integrity and consistency of the AOI file structure, eBAGIS AOI Repository imposes the following rules on the AOIs it manages.
No AOIs in the Repository can have the identical name. AOI names are case-sensitive.
AOIs, regardless what their names are, are linked to the closest gauge station within 100 meters search radius. A gauge station can have more than one AOIs. An AOI is associated with only one gauge station. If no gauge station is found within the search radius, a new point is created based on the location of the AOI's pour point.
The name of the AOI in the Repository is determined by the name of the AOI users want to upload from their desktop computers. A user can use BAGIS to rename an AOI on the desktop computer before uploading it to the Repository.
How to overwrite an existing AOI? You need to delete the AOI from the Repository first and then reload the AOI that has the same name.
eBAGIS Server is managed by the Center for Spatial Analysis and Research at Portland State University. In addition to hosting the AOI Repository, eBAGIS Server also serving web services that are using in Desktop BAGIS (-H/-P).
Create an eBAGIS Account
Go to https://ebagis.geog.pdx.edu/accounts/login/ (It could take up to 20 seconds for the web page to open!)
Click on Sign Up to create an account or enter your account credential to sign in
Send a message to ebagis@pdx.edu and request NWCC_STAFF status for your account if you want to be able to upload AOIs to the Repository.
User Management
To access or manage the eBAGIS AOI Repository, users must create an account in eBAGIS. The account credential is used in both the eBAGIS web portal (when connected with a web browser) and the Desktop BAGIS tools (when connected using BAGIS addins in ArcGIS Desktop).
In addition to guest users, who do not require a log on, there are three levels of user accounts: 1) User; 2) NWCC_STAFF; 3) NWCC_ADMIN. The table below shows the access privileges for each account level.
User is the default access level when an eBAGIS account is first created. Send requests to ebagis@pdx.edu to elevate the access level.
See this page for user account management instructions.
Download an AOI
You can download an AOI using eBAGIS web interface in a web browser or with the BAGIS Tools addin in ArcMap.
Web Brower:
Open a web browser and connect to eBAGIS (http://webservices.geog.pdx.edu/ebagis)
Click on eBAGIS Viewer.
Log on to eBAGIS.
Find the pour point of the AOI you want to download and expand the AOI list to view the AOIs associated with the pour point.
Click on the AOI to view its detail information.
Click on Submit Download Request to download the AOI.
Users can use the left panel to download specific AOI layers individually. However, these downloaded individual files are not conformed to BAGIS AOI file structure and cannot be used directly in BAGIS for additional analysis.
BAGIS Tools addin:
Install BAGIS-H to ArcGIS Desktop (Version 10.2 or later). Get BAGIS-H addin here.
Open ArcMap and enable the BAGIS Tools toolbar.
Select eBAGIS AOI Menu tool from the toolbar.
You will need to provide your eBAGIS username and password to connect to the eBAGIS AOI Repository the first time you run the tool. The security certificate established between BAGIS and eBAGIS is valid for 7 days on the computer. When the certificate expires, you will be prompted to sign in again. You can sign out to remove the security certificate from the computer.
Click List and use filters to find the AOI(s) you want to download. Select the AOI to download it to your local computer. Depending on the size of the AOI, it might take a long time to complete the download. Don't exit ArcMap before the download is completed.
Upload an AOI
You must have an eBAGIS organizational account (that belongs to the NWCC_STAFF or NWCC_ADMIN group) to upload an AOI. Contact ebagis@pdx.edu to change your account level.
Install BAGIS-H to ArcGIS Desktop (Version 10.2 or later)
Open ArcMap and enable the BAGIS Tools toolbar.
Select eBAGIS AOI Menu tool from the toolbar.
