The source data layers required by BAGIS are available as web services hosted by Portland State University. Note that your computer must be connected to the Internet to access the web services and your ArcGIS version must be 10.2.2 or higher. Also, in ArcGIS 10.2.2, "webservices" is a reserved keyword and cannot appear in the web services' URL. Using the 'Default Settings' button on the BAGIS Options form is the easiest way to configure BAGIS to use these services.
1. Select the Options item from the Basin Analyst menu on the BAGIS toolbar
2. The title bar of the Settings window indicates the location of the settings file on your local computer. You may want to set aside a backup copy of this file in case you later wish to restore your original settings
3. Click the Default Settings button in the lower right-hand corner of the Settings window
4. You will need to wait a few moments while BAGIS locates and validates the default web services
5. You may receive the warning below about an existing terrain reference layer. Click 'Yes' to overwrite the existing layer unless you have a specific reason not to. Note that the Settings form has three separate entries for the Terrain, Drainage, and Watershed reference layers. The default terrain reference layer definition includes all three of these layers so the Drainage and Watershed Reference layers will remain empty.
6. Click the Save Settings button on the Settings form to save these settings for the next time you use BAGIS. You may receive a warning about a projection mismatch. Click Yes to finalize saving the settings.
7. You can also configure individual data layers to be sourced from web services. Click on the Set button next to any of the data sources. You need to add data from GIS Servers. Select Add ArcGIS Server if the bagis server doesn't show up in the catalog.
8. Select "Use GIS Services", then enter "bagis.geog.pdx.edu/arcgis" in the Server URL field. Leave User Name and Password blank and click on Finish to add the server to ArcGIS.
9. Navigate to a web service by selecting GIS Servers > bagis.geog.pdx.edu and the appropriate folder. If you are selecting a feature service make sure the search type is set to Feature Services. If you are selecting an image (raster) service, be sure the search type is set to Image Service. Precipitation services are configured slightly differently and you need to select the parent folder rather than an individual image service. Each precipitation image service (jan, feb, etc) is located in its own folder. Click select when you have located your desired web service.
10. Click the Save Settings button on the Settings form to save these settings for the next time you use BAGIS. Per step 6, you may receive a warning about a projection mismatch. Click Yes to finalize saving the settings.
