ArcGIS Online is a cloud GIS capable of storing, manipulating, and sharing GIS data. NRCS has an enterprise ArcGIS Online "portal" that allows NRCS to manage and control the organizational users and data. Users can access ArcGIS Online from a web browser or from ArcGIS desktop products such as ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) or ArcGIS Pro. This document describes the steps to access NRCS ArcGIS Online from a web browser. You must have an enterprise ArcGIS Online account to use the cloud GIS. Please contact NRCS IT department to setup your enterprise ArcGIS Online account.
1. Go to https://www.arcgis.com/ and click on "Sign In"
2. Select Enterprise Login.
3. Enter "nrcs" as the prefix of the organization's ArcGIS Online URL. You can choose to remember this URL on your web browser by checking the check box. Alternatively, you can access the NRCS enterprise ArcGIS Online directly from the enterprise URL: http://nrcs.maps.arcgis.com/
4. Enter your NRCS enterprise ArcGIS Online account username and password to sign in.
5. You should see the main landing page after login.
6. Select Groups or Content to view your ArcGIS Online groups and your "data." ArcGIS Online supports many different data types, some are "file" based, some are "service" based. You can organize your data in folders that you created. The image below shows the station feature layers in the awdb folder. These data are stored on ArcGIS Online as vector features (i.e., station points). Users can use the Add Item function to add new content to ArcGIS Online.
7. Once a data entry is added to ArcGIS Online, you can decide who can access the data by setting the share options. Share option can be set on multiple selected data entries. Depending on the type of data, some shared data can be updated by the users who have the required access privilege. The example below shows that the awdb station feature layer can be shared for access (read) only or for both access and update.
8. Users can share the data with everyone on the internet, NRCS users, or the groups of which they are members. The "nwcc Content (Open Data)" group is connected to NWCC ArcGIS Hub. Any data items that are shared with this group can be searched and accessed from NWCC ArcGIS Hub. Please contact NWCC if you want to share your data on NWCC ArcGIS Hub.
