In addition to creating data directly on ArcGIS Online with a web browser, users can publish data and services to ArcGIS Online from their ESRI desktop GIS such as ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro. This document describes the steps to publish a webmap service to NRCS ArcGIS Online in ArcMap so that the service can be accessed from NWCC ArcGIS Hub.
1. Start ArcMap, open or create a map document, then select "Sign In..." from the File menu.
2. Select ENTERPRISE LOGIN, then enter "nrcs" as the prefix of the NRCS' organization URL. Continue to provide your NRCS Enterprise ArcGIS Online username and password. Note that the login window now shows that you are signing in NRCS ArcGIS Online. You can opt to sign in ArcGIS Online automatically the next time you start ArcMap but checking the checkbox at the lower left corner of the login window.
3. You can verify that ArcMap is connected to the NRCS ArcGIS Online from the File menu. The "Sign In..." item now shows as "Sign Out" followed by your ArcGIS Online account username.
4. To publish a map document to ArcGIS Online, just select "Share As ->Service..." from the File menu.
5. Select "Publish a service", then pick the "My Hosted Service (Natural Resources Conservation Service)" from the dropdown list. Enter your service name and click on "Next" to continue.
6. After the Service Editor appears, confirm the capabilities of your service. Enabling the tiled mapping capability can improve the display speed of the webservice, but the tiles generation and storage consume your ArcGIS account's credits. You are also required to provide descriptions of the service.
7. Select the Sharing option and set your intended setting. Users can share the data with everyone on the internet, NRCS users, or the groups of which they are members. The "nwcc Content" group is connected to NWCC ArcGIS Hub. Any data items that are shared with this group can be searched and accessed from NWCC ArcGIS Hub. Please contact NWCC if you want to join the nwcc Content group.
8. You can use the Analyze and Preview function to check your map document before publishing it. You must correct all errors before you can publish the map document. Click Publish to publish the map document to ArcGIS Online. Once the task is finished, you can verify the published data in NWCC ArcGIS Hub or NRCS ArcGIS Online.
