1. Discussed Graduate Assistantship contract.
a. Discussed hours per week expected of grad students which will be a minimum of 15 (.3 FTE)
b. Discussed status of contract. We are awaiting for Karin to return to finalize paperwork.
c. Discussed the possibility of work into next summer.
d. Compensation wil include tuiotion waver for 9 cr hours per quarter.
2. Discussion of programming languages again
a. Decided to wait until we fully understood client reqirements before making final decision.
b. Python and Java were both discussed and was the opinion that puthon would be better choice due to ease of learning and more flexibility. Confidential PSU source also recommended Python.

a. Dr. Duh stated that he would request an NRCS IT Staff member to be present at next meeting to address this question
b. Dr. Duh requested that Manzione reference PSU Source about Python vs. Java
2. Dr. Duh provided and instructed Manzione and Silcock to reference “ArcMap procedure for analyzing new Snotel site locations” for upcoming meeting with NRCS on Friday (10/2) at 10:00 am

1. As requested by Dr. Duh, Manzione asked PSU Source about his personal recommendation of using Python or Java for this project.
a. PSU Source suggested Python over Java due to its open source connections, “geo-command” library, and ease of use.
2. Manzione then asked PSU Source about if there was a preference in using Python over Java when establishing and using a Graphical User Interface (GUI).
a. PSU Source stated that both languages can support a GUI, however he prefers Java over Python.
3. Manzione then asked PSU Source about VBA.Net.
a. PSU Source stated that VBA.Net is basically “Windows’ form of Java” and that he does not recommend using it for this type of project.
4. PSU Source suggests that if this model is going to be interfaced with multiple applications, then it would be best to use the programming language used by those applications.
