Opera

We meet from 11.30 to 12.30 on Week One Thursdays.

We show and discuss operas on DVD, usually about one act at a time.  Thus most operas take three sessions.  I give a synopsis of the plot beforehand, and a recap. during the intermediate sessions, to enable anyone who has missed the previous session to catch up.  Mostly, we have played works in Italian, because they are popular, but we are flexible.  We endeavour to intersperse old favourites with less well-known operas.

In July we shall see the end of 'Aida; so shield and spear at the ready. Then to celebrate Bizet, Carmen will be bewitching, bothering and bewildering Don Jose. It will be a most tuneful month.
