Example: Tanisha loved to visit her affluent aunt because she had a swimming pool and a basketball court (synonym: wealthy)
Answer: Which word means the same as affluent?

Answer: If you were affluent, what special things might you own? Why would you own these things? Describe them.

Copy: Hermit - noun - a person who lives alone in a lonely or isolated place
Example: The hermit saw other people only when he hiked into town to buy groceries.
Answer: Why might somebody choose to be a hermit? Do you think that you would like to be a hermit? Why or why not?
Homework:
How might you help others if you were affluent? Why would you help these people? Explain.

Copy: Dapper - adjective - attractive in dress (synonym: fashionable)
Example: Steve was such a dapper dresser that he looked like a model.

Answer: Think of famous people who are dapper dressers. Who would you most like to dress like? Why? Explain.

Example: The bank robbers planned to abscond with thousands of dollars.
Answer: If you planned to abscond, where would you go? Why? Explain.
Homework:
Imagine that you just won 1 million dollars and you are about to attend a huge party. You want to look as dapper as possible. What clothes are you wearing? Describe your outfit.
Day 3
Bellwork 1:
Copy: Curtail - verb - to cut short; reduce (synonym: to shorten)
Example: My mom told me to curtail the time I spend playing video games and focus more on my homework.
Answer: Which activity might you curtail in order to improve your grades.

Answer: List some activities that you should curtail if you want to stay healthy.

Copy: Dejected - adjective - low in spirits (synonym: discouraged)
Example: Heather felt dejected when she didn't break the high jump record.
Answer: What makes you feel dejected? What makes you feel better when you are feeling dejected?
Homework:
What are some activities that you should curtail if you do not want to get in trouble with the law or end up in jail? Why are these dangerous activities? What are some better options? Explain.

Copy: Digress - verb - to get off the subject, especially when speaking or writing
Example: The teacher took a moment to digress and told a funny joke before getting back to the lesson.

Answer: Do you consider yourself to be gregarious? Why or why not? Explain.

Copy: Docile - adjective - easy to handle or train
Example: Tyrone's docile dog won the prize for "best-behaved pet" at the show.
Answer: What type of behavior do you think a docile dog would exhibit?
Homework:
If you were to own a pet, would you prefer a pet that was energetic or docile? Why? Explain your answer.
