Day 1
Bellwork 1:
What is your favorite season? Why is it your favorite season? What do you like best about it? What is your least favorite season? Why is it your least favorite? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
There are still many things that people do not know about the ocean. What things do you you think we have yet to learn about the ocean? What kind of things would be beneficial to find in the ocean? Explain your answer.
Homework:
What do you know about Native-Americans? Do you think it was right for the European settlers to take over America from the Native-Americans? How would you feel about it if you were Native-American? Explain.
Day 2
Bellwork 1:
Many high schools require community service to graduate. Do you agree with this? Why is community service important? What are some things you could do to help your community?
Bellwork 2:
Imagine you had to chose between joining the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard. If you had to, which branch would you join? Why would you join this branch? What type of things would you have to do in this branch? Explain.
Homework:
How often do you read? What type of things do you find yourself reading? Do you think reading makes people smarter? Why? Explain.
Day 3
Bellwork 1:
During the Industrial Revolution, there were many children working long hours in factories in order to support their families. Many times they would be unable to attend school. Is this unfair? Why or why not? Should every child have the right to go to school? What happens when children are not allowed to go to school? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
Imagine that you are running for student body president. Why should people vote for your? What are some of your good qualities? What type of things would you do to improve the school?
Homework
Imagine you just got a phone call from the Hershey Company. They want you to design a new candy bar? What ingredients would the candy bar contain? What would it be called? What would you make the wrapper look like? Why?
Day 4
Bellwork 1:
Imagine you are a scientist and you are working on a cure for a disease. If you could work to cure any disease, what disease would it be? Why would you chose to cure this disease? How would this help society?
Bellwork 2:
Do you think it should be mandatory for all young people to attend school? At what age should students be allowed to decide not to attend school? What are some of the disadvantages to dropping out of school? Explain.
Homework:
Imagine that you are creating a fun and educational cartoon schow for children. What would the name of the show be? What type of things would children learn from it? Who would some of the characters be? Describe how they would look and act.
Day 5
Bellwork 1:
Do you think that it is important for the United States to have a strong military? Why or why not? What are some of the advantages of a strong military? What type of threats do you think causes the United States to have a strong military? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
Does your family recycle? Do you think recycling is important? How does recycling help the environment? Explain.
Homework
Have you ever visited an ocean? If so, describe what it was like? If not, describe what you think an ocean would be like? What do you think would be the best ocean in the world to visit? Why? Explain.
