Week 1
Day 1:
Bellwork 1:
Imagine that the government has paid you a large amount of money to develop a new product that will help society for the better. What would you invent? What would it be used for? How would it help people?
Bellwork 2:
How well can you remember details? What type of things do you remember best? Think about the place where you live. Describe what it looks like on the inside and the outside the best you can!
Homework:
How do you feel about sports? Do you like or dislike them? Why? If you like sports, what is your favorite sport? Why is it your favorite sport? Who are your favorite athletes? Why?
Day 2:
Bellwork 1:
Our society is governed by rules and laws. What do you think are some of the most important laws that we have as a society? Why? What are some laws that you disagree with? Why do you disagree with these laws? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
Many people have a favorite meal. What is your favorite meal? When do you eat it? Who makes it the best? Is it served cold or hot? What other foods or drinks go well with it? Explain.
Homework:
America was first discovered in August of 1492. Do you know who discovered America? How would you feel if you were seeing America for the first time? What type of things would you worry about when entering an unknown territory?
Day 3:
Bellwork 1:
There are many American men and women who serve in the United States military. Would you ever serve in the military? Why or why not? What type of things would you have to worry about while being in the military? What skills could you learn that would make you a better person? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
Shaw High School is known for its great band. What type of qualities do you are found in good bands? Do you play an instrument? If so, which one? If not, what is an instrument that you would like to learn to play? Explain.
Homework:
Many businesspeople are trying to develop space travel packages for the American public, such as Richard Branson. Would you trust a company that promised to take you into space? Why or why not? Once you entered space, what type of things would you like to see? What are some fears that you would have traveling on such a flight?
Day 4:
Bellwork 1:
Many students enjoy art class. Do you enjoy art class? Why or why not? Do you draw? If so, what do you draw? If not, what type of things would you like to be able to draw? Do you know of any famous artists? If so, who?
Bellwork 2:
Imagine that you have won a free plane ticket to any country in the world. Where would you like to go? Why would you go there? What type of things would you see? Who would you take with you? Why?
Homework:
The United States has had many great people serve as President of the United States. Would you ever be interested in becoming the President of the Unites States? What type of things would you change if you were president? How would these changes make society better? What would be some of the biggest challenges associated with being president? Explain.
Day 5:
Bellwork 1:
Imagine that you are a famous architect and you have been asked to design a new high school. What type of things would you have inside the high school? Why would students like these things? What would the outside of the high school look like? Why? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
People in the United States use computers everyday. How do computers make things easier for people? What would life be like without computers? Would it be better or worse? Why?
Homework:
Imagine that you were in a race around the world? What would be the best vehichle or vehicles to travel in? Why would you need a vehicle(s) such as these? What features would they have? Describe your plan for traveling around the world.
