Day 1
Bellwork 1: To "mesmerize" someone means to fascinate or entrance them. Tell about a time when you were mesmerized. What happened? Why were you mesmerized? Describe the situation.
Bellwork 2: To be "familiar" with someone or something means to know them well. Give an example of someone or something that you are familiar with? How are you familiar? Explain.
Day 2
Bellwork 1: To be "jubilant" means to feel or show great joy. Tell about something that made you jubilant. Why did it make you jubilant? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To "repose" means to rest. Describe the perfect environment in which to find repose. What makes it so perfect for resting? Explain.
Day 3
Bellwork 1: An "antique" is something that was made a long time ago. Tell about an "antique" that you own or would like to own.
Bellwork 2: To "conform" means to act or think in a way that follows the rules. What is a rule that everyone conforms to at school? What is a rule that nobody conforms to at school? Why? Explain.
Day 4
Bellwork 1: "Fatigue" refers to the condition of being very tired. What types of activities cause you to feel fatigue? Describe them.
Bellwork 2: Something that is "infinite" is without limits or an end.
Day 5
Bellwork 1: An "adaptation" is something that has been changed to fit different conditions. Give an example of a movie that is an adaptation of a book. How are they different? How are they the same? Explain.
Bellwork 2: Something that is "urban" is something that is from the city or related to the city. Describe an urban area that you have lived in? Would you prefer living in an urban setting, or some other type of setting?
Week 5
Day 1
Bellwork 1: To "converge" means to join together. Give an example of two streets in your community that converge. What is located there? Describe the area.
Bellwork 2: To be "sarcastic" means to use cutting or bitter words. How would you respond to someone who made a sarcastic comment to you. How would you let that person know that you do not like hearing sarcastic words?
Day 2
Bellwork 1: To hold someone in "esteem" means to have a very high opinion of them. Describe someone that you hold in high esteem. Why do you admire that person. Explain.
Bellwork 2: To "cavort" means to run and jump around playfully. When and where do children usually like to cavort? Explain.
Day 3
Bellwork 1: To be "vehement" means to demonstrate strong feelings. Give an example of something you are vehement about? Why do you feel so strongly about it? Explain.
Bellwork 2: "Restoration" refers to the act of bringing something back to its original condition. Give an example of some places or things that have gone through restoration.
Day 4
Bellwork 1: A "queue" is a line formed for waiting. What is the longest queue you have ever waited in? What was it for? Was it worth the wait? Why?
Bellwork 2: To "amuse" means to entertain. Give examples of things you do to amuse yourself on rainy weekends.
Day 5
Bellwork 1: To "dedicate" means to set apart for a special purpose or use. If you had money that you could dedicate to charity, what would you do with it? What charity would you choose? Why? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To "glare" means to stare at in an angry way. Has anybody ever glared at you in an angry way? If so, why? Explain the situation.
Week 6
Day 1
Bellwork 1: To "utter" means to make an audible sound with your voice. What was one of the first words you uttered when you learned to speak?
Bellwork 2: To "compose" yourself means to make yourself calm. What do you do to compose yourself when you are getting too upset or excited?
Day 2
Bellwork 1: A "volunteer" is a person who chooses to work without being paid. What sort of work would you be willing to do as a volunteer?
Bellwork 2: Someone who is "pessimistic" always expects things to go badly. Do you think you are a pessimistic person? Explain why or why not.
Day 3
Bellwork 1: To "Detest" something means to dislike it very much. What is something you detest? Why do you dislike it so much? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To be "tolerant" means to be willing to respect customs, ideas, or beliefs that are different from yours. How would you encourage others to be tolerant? Why is it important for people to be tolerant?
Day 4
Bellwork 1: Something that is "ultimate" is in its final stage. What is your ultimate educational goal? Why? Explain.
Bellwork 2: "Ventilation" is the circulation of air. How do you get ventilation in your house? Explain.
Day 5
Bellwork 1: Something that is "anonymous" is from someone whose name is not known. Why do you think newspapers don't print articles written by anonymous writers? Explain.
Bellwork 2: "Know-how" refers to the knowledge of how to do something. In what areas do you have real know-how? How did you gain this knowledge? Explain.
