Day 1
Bellwork 1: The "stratosphere" refers to the layer of atmosphere that extends from about eight miles to forty miles above Earth. Do you think it will ever be common to travel through Earth's stratosphere? What might that be like? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To be "endowed" means to have been provided with an ability, talent, or other positive quality at birth. What special abilities are you endowed with?
Day 2
Bellwork 1: Somebody who has "charisma" has a magnetic charm or appeal. Describe someone you know who has charisma.
Bellwork 2: Something that is "ancient" is from times long past. What is something ancient that you have seen or read about? Describe it.
Day 3
Bellwork 1: To "expose" means to make something known or to leave open without protection. What can happen to your skin if it gets too exposed to the sun?
Bellwork 2: A "distraction" is something that draws one's attention away.
Day 4
Bellwork 1: Something that is "luscious" smells or tastes delicious. Give some examples of foods you find luscious.
Bellwork 2: To "forfeit" means to give up because of some fault or mistake. Why might a team have to forfeit a game? Explain.
Day 5
Bellwork 1: "Ignorance" refers to a lack of knowledge. What is the best way to overcome ignorance? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To be "vain" means to be overly proud of one's looks, abilities, or accomplishments, Do you think being vain is positive or negative? Why Explain.
Week 8
Day 1
Bellwork 1: A "reunion" is the bringing together of friends, family, or other groups of people. Give examples of groups of people who have reunions. Have you ever been to a reunion? Describe it.
Bellwork 2; Something that is "shallow" is not deep. Where can you find some shallow water near your home? Where can you find some deep water by your home? Describe both areas.
Day 2
Bellwork 1: To "banish" somebody means to punish them by making them leave a country. Why do you think someone would be banished? Who can be banished? Who can banish others? Explain.
Bellwork 2: Something that is "essential" is very important or necessary. What are some things that are essential to you staying alive? Why?
Day 3
Bellwork 1: Someone who is "formidable" is someone to be dreaded. Who is someone who seems formidable to you? Why?
Bellwork 2: To "sanction" something means to give approval. Would you sanction a decision to have school on Saturdays? Why or why not? Explain.
Day 4
Bellwork 1: A "pharmacist" is a person trained to prepare and distribute medicines. What might be difficult about being a pharmacist? What might be enjoyable about it? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To be "limber" means to be capable of being shaped. Why is it important for gymnasts to be limber? Explain.
Day 5
Bellwork 1: A "campaign" is a series of planned activities to bring about a desired result. Besides the presidential campaign, name some other types of campaigns you know about?
Belwork 2: Something that is "majestic" is grand or spectacular. What are some things in nature that you think are majestic?

Day 1
Bellwork 1: To "concoct" something is to prepare it by mixing several different things together. Give some examples of things you or your family concoct.
Bellwork 2: A "ballyhoo" is a noisy, attention-getting demonstration or talk. Where have you heard a ballyhoo? Describe it.
Day 2
Bellwork 1: To "enunciate" means to produce words clearly. Why is it important for your teachers to be able to enunciate?
Bellwork 2: Somebody who is "intimate" is close and familiar to you. Who is someone you would describe as an intimate friend? Who would you describe as a family friend? Why?

Bellwork 1: Something that is "concise" is expressed in a few words. Give examples of some things you've read that are both informative and concise.
Bellwork 2: "Banter" refers to playful teasing or joking. Where might you hear banter between people? Describe the situation.

Bellwork 1: Something that is aquatic grows or lives in water. Name some aquatic plants or creatures. Describe them.

Bellwork 1: "Dignity" is the act of showing one's pride in a confident manner. Do you admire people who have dignity? Why?
