Week 1
Day One:
Bellwork 1: Somebody who is "diplomatic" is good at dealing with people. Describe somebody you know who is diplomatic. What makes this person diplomatic? Describe them.
Bellwork 2: To "taunt" means to tease or make fun of someone or something. How would you deal with somebody who was taunting you? Why? Explain.
Day Two:
Bellwork 1: A "jester" was an entertainer at a royal court in the Middle Ages. Who is somebody who you think would make a good jester? Why? Describe this person.
Bellwork 2: A "tendency" is a likelihood to behave in a certain way. What type of things do you have a tendency to do? What type of behaviors or emotions do you have a tendency to display? Why? Explain.
Day Three:
Bellwork 1: To be "persistent" means to last a long time and not give up. When is it a good idea to be persistent? Who is somebody that you know of who is persistent? What makes them persistent? Describe them.
Bellwork 2: To "extricate" means to set free from a difficult or embarrassing situation. Describe a time when you had to extricate yourself or someone else from an uncomfortable situation. Where were you, and how did you extricate yourself?
Day Four:
Bellwork 1: In academics, a "frontier" refers to an area in a field of study where new discoveries are being made. What do you think some new frontiers in science may be in the current century?
Bellwork 2: To "flaunt" something means to display it in order to be noticed. Tell about something you like to flaunt. Why? Explain.
Day Five:
Bellwork 1: "Terminology" refers to words or terms used in a particular business, science, or art. What are some technological terminology that you have learned over the years?
Bellwork 2: To "comprehend" means to understand. Which subjects were once hard for you to understand, but now are easy to comprehend?
Week 2
Day One:
Bellwork 1: "Deception" refers to a trick or lie meant to deceive someone. Tell about a time when you used deception to get what you wanted. Do you think using deception is a good idea? Why or why not? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To be "immobile" means to be unable to move. How would you feel if you had to remain completely immobile for a long time? Why? What types of things would you miss doing? Why?
Day Two:
Bellwork 1: To "avert" means to turn away from something or prevent it from happening. Do you participate in any activities in which you need to be careful to avert serious injuries? If so, what? Describe the activity.
Bellwork 2: A "majority" refers to more than half of a group of people. Who is a musician or musicians (rapper, singer, dj, rock band) that you would say the majority of your friends also like or listen to? What makes them so popular?
Day Three:
Bellwork 1: Somebody who is "fastidious" is not easy to please. Who is the most fastidious person you know? What makes them fastidious? Describe them?
Bellwork 2: To "lundge" means to move forward suddenly. Tell about a time when someone or something lunged at you. Where were you and what happened? Describe the situation.
Day Four:
Bellwork 1: An "array" refers to beautiful or splendid clothing. What sort of array would you like to wear. Describe it.
Bellwork 2: A "promotion" is a move upward in position or grade. What is a promotion you could receive at your job or at school? Describe it.
Day Five:
Bellwork 1: To be "reluctant" about something means to be unwilling or not wanting to do it. Give an example of something you are reluctant to do. Why are you reluctant to do this thing? Explain.
Bellwork 2: To "confront" somebody means to meet or face them boldly. Tell about a time when you had to confront someone about something. What was it about? What happened?
Week 3:
Day One:
Bellwork 1: Something that is "ambiguous" has more than one possible meaning. What can you do to clarify information that is ambiguous?
Bellwork 2: To be "encumbered" means to be weighted down. What are some things that might encumber you from moving freely?
Day Two:
Bellwork 1: A "benefactor" is someone who gives money or a gift of generous assistance to a person or group of people. If you could be a benefactor, what kind of help would you like to give to and why? Explain.
Bellwork 2: Something that is "indispensable" is absolutely necessary. What is something that is indispensable to you? Why? Explain.
Day Three:
Bellwork 1: To "mortify" somebody means to cause them to feel terrible embarrassment. Tell about a time when you felt mortified. What made you feel mortified? Describe the situation.
Bellwork 2: If something is "bountiful" in your life, it means you have more than enough. Is there anything in your life that is bountiful? If so, what? If not, what would you like to have that is bountiful?
Day Four:
Bellwork 1: To "endorse" something means to give support or approval to a product or to attach one's name to a product. Name some famous people and the products they endorse.
Bellwork 2: To be "idle" means to not be busy and do nothing. What do you like to do during your idle time? Why? Explain.
Day Five:
Bellwork 1: To "absorb" means to soak up. What is they best way for you to absorb information? Do you like to read, listen, or view as a way to absorb information? Why? Explain.
Bellwork 2: Something that is "erroneous" contains an error or mistake. What do you do when you find out that something you said or wrote was erroneous?
