Day 1
Bellwork 1:
Why is it important to take care of the environment? What are some ways that the environment affects our lives? What are some of the things that people could do to help the environment? What are some things that you do to help the environment? How could littering and pollution affect the future of our planet? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
More and more people are turing towards technology and moving away from traditional forms of communication. Do you think that there will ever be a day when nobody uses paper and everyone only uses computers? What types of things do you use paper for now? Could you do these things with a computer? Would we need mail carriers with no paper? Why? Is this a good or bad thing? Explain.
Homework
Many people turn to their family when they have a problem in life. What is a problem that your family helped you through? Who helped you? How was the problem resolved? What type of things do you do for your family?
Day 2
Bellwork 1:
People relax in different ways. What do you do to relax? Where are some relaxing places that you like to go? Why are they relaxing? At what times do you feel the need to relax? What type of things stress you out? Why? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
Many people have different senses of humor. Who do you think the funniest person from television or movies is? Why is this person funny? What televison or movies have you seen them on? Who is the funniest person you know in real life? Why is this person funny? Explain.
Homework:
Paleontology is the study of dinosaur fossils. What do you think early paleontologists thought when they first uncovered dinosaur bones? What do you think happened to the dinosaurs? How would it feel to live in a world with dinosaurs? What kind of dangers would you face? Explain.
Day 3
Bellwork 1:
Imagine you are a famous author? What type of stories do you write about? What type of characters are in them? What genre are your stories? What did you decide to write the things you write? What advice would you have for people trying to be writers?
Bellwork 2:
Abraham Lincoln is famous for signing the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves during the American Civil War. Why was it important for Lincoln to put an end to slavery? Why do you think the South was refusing to give up slavery? How do you think history would be different if Abraham Lincoln and the North did not defeat the South?
Homework:
The moon landing was an important accomplishment in U.S. History. Would you be nervous if you were a part of the crew that went on the first moon mission? What are some of the dangers you would have to worry about?
Day 4
Bellwork 1:
The 19th Amendment allows women to vote. Why is it important that men and women have equal rights? Why do you think men prevented women from having equal rights for so long? What type of things do you think women were unable or not allowed to do? Do you think things are different these days? Why or why not? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
What is something you would like to learn more about this year? What subject area would this fall under? Why do you want to learn about this? What questions do you have about the topic?
Homework:
Imagine the government has asked you to design a new $100 bill. Whose face would you put on the bill? Why would you chose this person? What else would you include on the bill? Why? Explain.
Day 5
Bellwork 1:
What is your favorite movie? Why is this your favorite movie? Who are some of the characters in the movie? What genre is the movie? When was the first time you saw this movie? How would you describe it to somebody who had not seen it?
Bellwork 2:
What is your favorite book? Who is the author of the book? What is it about? When is the first time that you read this book? Why do you like it? Explain.
Homework:
When the television first came out it was very different from the televisions we have today? How do you think early televisions were different from the ones we have today
