On November 19th, 1969, Soccer star, Pele, scored his 1,000th goal. What steps do you think Pele took to become the greatest soccer player of all time? What is a goal that you would like to accomplish later in life? What steps could you take to accomplish this goal? Explain.

Homework

Calvin Klein was born on November 19th, 1942. He is known for his successful clothing line. If you were to invent your own clothing line, what would you produce? What would the company be called? What would the clothes look like? Explain.

Day 2

Bellwork 1

On November 20th, 1962, the Cuban Missle Crisis ended. The Cuban Missle Crisis is the arguably the closest the world has come to nuclear war. What would be the effects of a nuclear war? What would happen to the environment? What would happen to the human population? What would be the after effects? Explain.

Bellwork 2

On November 20th, 1925, former US Attorney General Robert Kennedy was born. Robert Kennedy was assassinated while running for US President in 1968. Much like his older brother, John, Robert was an outstanding speaker. While running for president he had to deliver the news of Martin Luther King's assassination to an inner city crowd in Indianapolis. The following excerpt from the Greek poet, Aeschylus, was included in his speech, ""In our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God." On November 21st, 1969, American Baseball Player Ken Griffey Jr. was born. Ken Griffey is famous for his playing abilities and his signature shoes. Imagine you had to design your own shoe. What type of shoe would it be? What colors would it be? Would their be any pictures/numbers/logos on it? If so, what? Describe the shoe to the reader.

November 21st is National Adoption Day in the United States. Why is it important for people to be willing to adopt children? For what reasons might a couple decide to adopt? Do you know anyone who was adopted? If so, who?

On November 22nd, 1995, Toy Story debuted as the first major motion picture to be completely computer generated. How have computers improved both animated and live-action movies? How are they used for special effects? What other ways do computers enhance our lives? Explain.

Former president, John F Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Kennedy was known for many great things such as creating the legislation that would become the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Why are civil rights important in the United States. What types of things  would happen without civil rights? What types of protests led to the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964?

John F. Kennedy is quoted as saying, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." What do you believe this quote means? How does this quote apply to the Civil Rights Movement? Explain.

On November 23, 1859, American Outlaw Billy the Kid was born. What do you think life would have been like during the "Wild West"? What type of things did they lack when it came to medicince? What did they use for transportation? How would you describe their houses and buildings? Would you want to be alive during this time? Why or why not? Explain.

Bellwork 2

Actor Boris Karloff was born on November 23, 1887. Karloff is most famous for playing Frankenstein's Monster. Frankenstein's Monster was created by Dr. Frankenstein in Mary Shelley's book, Frankenstein. Do you think it would ever be possible for one human being to create another. How do you think they would go about doing this? Provide a drawing of Frankenstein's Monster for extra credit.

Imagine you have been asked to write the script to a new monster movie. What is the name of your new monster? Where did this monster come from? How was it created? What does it look like? What are the monster's strengths and weaknesses? Who does the monster attack? Is the monster defeated by the end of the movie? If so, how? If not, why not?
