Day 1
Bellwork 1:
Libraries are an important part of our society. How often do you attend the library? What type of things do you do there? Do you know how to find books about certain topics within the library? What topics interest you? Why?
Bellwork 2:
Pizza is very popular in American culture? Do you like pizza? If so, why? If not, why not? Who makes the best pizza? What toppings do you usually get? What would be some good toppings that are not offered?
Homework:
There have been many rebellions throughout history in various countries. What conditions do you think cause a population of people to rebel? Explain your answer.
Day 2
Bellwork 1:
What do you want to do once you graduate high school? Do you want to go to college? Why or why not? What type of job do you picture yourself having? Why? Explain.
Bellwork 2:
How do you get a lot of your music? Do you download it? Do you buy CDs? Do you think it is alright to download music without paying for it? Why or why not? Explain your answer.
Homework:
Do you think that it should be mandatory to say the Pledge of Allegiance in school? Why do you think people say the Plede of Allegiance? Do you think it is alright for students to refuse to say the pledge of allegiance?
Day 3
Bellwork 1:
Imagine the governor has asked you to create a new state seal for the state of Ohio. What pictures would you put on the seal? What would the motto be?
Bellwork 2:
There are many zoo's throughout the United States. Do you think that it is alright to put animals in zoo's or do you think they are better in the wild? If so, why? If not, why not? Explain.
Homework:
The famous olympian, Jesse Owens, is from Cleveland, Ohio. If you were able to compete in any olympic event, what would it be? Why would you chose this event? What skills does it require? Explain.
Day 4
Bellwork 1:
Things have changed since your grandparents were your age. Pretend that you are writing a letter to your grandparents. Ask them about their lives and tell them what your life is like.
Bellwork 2:
If you had to chose between reading a book or watching a movie based on a book, what would you chose? Why? Which do you think would be more detailed? Why? Why is one better than the other? Explain.
Homework:
Imagine that you have been hired by New Era to make the next big cap. Describe the design your cap would have. Include a sketch of the cap.
Day 5
Bellwork 1:
What do you think it means to be a good citizen? What could you do to help your community? What are things that people do that hurt your community? How could we prevent this?
Bellwork 2:
Do you feel like you are up to date on current events? What is something that you recently heard about happening in the United States? Is it important to stay informed about current events? Why or why not?
Homework:
Sea travel has changed greatly over the years. How do you think the ways people traveled on water differ from the ways people travel today? How are boats different now than they were hundreds or thousands of years ago? Explain.
