In this lesson students will become informed about the issue of illegal immigration in America. They will then watch clips from the 2015 Presidential Debate on two candidates with two different perspectives of how the issue needs to be handled. Students will then demonstrate understanding of how events can be looked at from different perspectives and draw conclusions based on the primary and secondary sources about the topic.
Lesson:
1. To best familiarize yourself with the issue of immigration in America, read Immigration: What Is The Problem? and watch "U.S Immigration Issues In A Nutshell".
2. Read the following immigration reform proposals and watch the videos that correspond with each of the politicians:
Donald Trump: Donald Trump Immigration Reform
Jeb Bush: Jeb Bush Immigration Reform
Barack Obama: Barack Obama Immigration Reform
3. Fill out the Politician Immigration Reform Graphic Organization which will assist you in organizing the beliefs of each of the three perspectives.
4. Complete the Perspectives of Immigration Writing Prompt which asks you to create your own Immigration Reform plan using information learned from these primary sources.
