I can conduct research on a philanthropist and explain the importance of their work in changing the world in which we live.

In this lesson students will conduct research on a philanthropist who has changed the world through their work or donations. Students will produce a one-to-two page typed double-spaced report or product based on the philanthropist and their impact on society. Students will also create a bibliography of the sources that they used to complete their research.

Lesson:

1. Before beginning your research, it is important that you understand what a philanthropist is. Watch the video to the right entitled "How To Be A Philanthropist". This video will give you a good insight into the world of philanthropy.

2. Begin your research on a famous philanthropist. Focus on their background, philanthropic work, and the impact that they have had on the world.

3. Write a one-to-two page double spaced paper highlighting the life, accomplishments, and impact of the philanthropist. The Paper Assignment Description which provides the Focus Correction Areas as well as a template on citing sources properly. You may choose to complete a product based on the philanthropist to demonstrate your understand. The Product Assignment Description will give you the information needed for this assignment.

4. You are required to include a bibliography of any sources that you may have used in your research. Remember, you must use reliable sources while doing your research. The format for citations can be found on the Assignment Description.

1. Write an extra page explaining the cause or organization in which your philanthropist contributes. Explain the organization itself, its goals, and the impact that your philanthropist has on your organization.
