The original AAK Investigations was formed in 1917 by former naval colleagues Karel Aponowicz and Charles "Chuck" Kowalski (AAK = Aponowicz And Kowalski), and was originally based at 195 West Brookline Street, South End, Boston.
Karel Aponowicz died in a road traffic accident on June 24th, 1919. Following this, Chuck Kowalski operated the company alone as sole proprietor.
In November 1924, Chuck took on a Secretary, Patricja Adamczyk, for the day-to-day administration of the office, and to allow him more time for actual detective work.
In early 1925, Bartholomew and Penelope Steel approached Chuck with an offer of investment in the company, As a result of this, on June 29th 1925, a new expanded company was formed, subsuming the assets of the existing company, with the addition of financial investment from the Steels.
At this point the company moved to their current offices on the fourth floor of 112 Water Street.
