Fun Facts

  • The Brewers were 3-7 in regular season bobblehead giveaway games this season.

  • Thumbs Up Bernie was given away the fans who bought the $40 birthday package during season. It has 2014 printed on the bottom. The same bobble was given out in 2012-13, with the only difference being the lot number and date printed on the bottom.

  • The Jean Segura 2013 All Star Game Batting Practice Jersey Bobblehead was a 2014 Season Seat Holder benefit. The Brewers offered one bobblehead exclusively per season ticket account. On game days, from April 11th through the 27th, there was a distribution table located on the Loge level concourse behind section 209. Eligible fans could pick up their bobblehead from the time the Miller Park gates opened until the end of the 3rd inning. Someone told me there were 313 cases ordered. If there were 18 bobbles in a case there would be 5,634. If there are 24 in a case then 7,512. So it is a good guess there are 5,000-8,000 of this bobble out there.

  • The Carlos Gomez bobblehead is the second Carlos bobblehead given away by the Brewers. This one was made to honor his 2013 Gold Glove award.

  • Though Kyle Lohse had a great career before Milwaukee, this was the first time ever he was immortalized as a bobble by any team as an SGA.

  • The Italian Sausage Stitch N' Pitch Bobblehead was given away to the first 1,000 fans to buy seats in the special Stitch N' Pitch section. Tickets were $27 in the Loge Outfield Box and $32 in the Field Outfield Box.

This is the letter that came with the Stitch 'N Pitch tickets and vouchers.

  • The Jim Henderson bobblehead has quite a story to it. For one, this was the first 2014 bobblehead to come in two different versions; a regular white uniform and retro. There were rumored to be 3,000-5,000 retro versions made.

Also, Jim had only appeared in 14 games total by the time his bobblehead came out. During spring training it was thought that he would be the Brewers closer for the season. However, he was removed from the role and closed 0 games in his 14 appearances. At the time of his bobble day, he was on the 60 day disabled list. This bobblehead was the winner of the Fan's Choice. The choices were Jim Henderson, Matt Garza or Willy Peralta. The vote took place long before fans knew he would not be the closer for the season, or the vote may have had a different result. On the night before his bobble was to be given away the Brewers released this statement:

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Jim Henderson is on the disabled list, and so is the truck delivering his Bobblehead.

Tomorrow is the “All-Fan Jim Henderson Bobblehead Day,” but due to mechanical issues, the truck may not arrive in time for the items to be distributed. If the items are delayed further, fans will need to hold on to their ticket stub to pick up their Bobblehead on a later date. Specifics on the delayed distribution will be announced tomorrow, if necessary.

“We are hopeful that the Bobbleheads will arrive in time, but we wanted to communicate in advance the issues with the transportation so that fans are prepared when they arrive at the game tomorrow,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and apologize on behalf of the transportation personnel who are bringing the Bobbleheads to Milwaukee.”

However, at 11:15 that night, sports radio personality Doug Russell tweeted a photo of the truck full of bobbles at Miller Park.

Henderson himself tweeted during the game about the bobblehead. He said, "Thank You fans for voting for today's bobblehead, and to the staff that worked late into the night after the shipment delay. #teamcrew"

Perhaps the wildest story behind this bobblehead is an error in making the retro version. The current M logo hat was mistakenly put on some of the retro versions and painted to match the retro version bobblehead colors. No one knows how many were accidentally made and distributed, making it a fun (and hard to come by) addition to some collections.

  • On Jean Segura bobblehead day he did not play. He had a rough game on Friday and this Sunday game ended up being his second day off to clear his head. There were approximately 6,000 retro uniform Seguras given away.

  • Hank the Dog rose to fame during 2014 Spring Training in Arizona. He showed up at camp on February 17, 2014, which was when pitchers and catchers had their first workout. Hank started making appearances at Spring Training games in a concourse booth. Fans could pay to take their photo with him and the money went to the Humane Society. In the middle of March, Hank flew on a Southwest Airlines flight to Milwaukee and was adopted by a staff member of the Brewers. He still made appearances throughout the season at Miller Park. The Brewers also started selling Hank merchandise and it helped raise money for the Humane Society too. Hank was a late add to the bobbles and was not originally announced as a giveaway. He was added to promotional schedule late (March 27th was when it was announced) thus he was given out on a Saturday, rather than a typical bobblehead Sunday. It was such a popular giveaway that the attendance that night was 45,205.

  • Robin Yount is no stranger to bobblehead collections. This is the 5th game since 2001 that his bobblehead was given out. This year the Brewers wanted to honor the 40th anniversary of his Rookie Season. Robin played his first game as a Brewer on April 5, 1974.

  • The limited edition Hank was available to the first 2,750 race participants who raised $40 or more. It was limited to one bobble per race participant that raised the $40 for the MACC Fund. The bobbles were available for pick up on September 18th from 4-7pm and on September 19th from 11am-8pm at Miller Park on the Club Level in the Skyy Lounge. Seen in the photo below, the race Hank (right side) has a different logo on his back. And the sponsor is the MACC Fund, rather than West Bend Mutual for the SGA Hank. And in the photo on the top of this page, it is clear that the SGA Hank has "Brewers" written across his chest, while the race Hank has "2014" in the same location. The boxes they came in are exactly the same with no way to discern the difference unless you opened them.
