Fun Facts

  • The Brewers were 4-2 in bobblehead giveaway games this season.
  • The sliding Bernie was given away to fans who bought the birthday package at Miller Park. He was given away with the birthday package from about 2005-2009. The 2009 version can be identified by the date on the bottom, and the fact that home plate is a cream white color; like the 2008 version. The 2009 version has a home plate that is slightly smaller than the 2005 and 2008 versions. Also, the 2005 is made by BD&A. '08 and '09 are by BDA.
  • The second Ryan Braun bobblehead given away was to commemorate one of the biggest moments in Brewer history. In the last regular season game of the 2008 season, Braun hit a tie-breaking 2 run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning to help the Brewers beat the Cubs 3-1. With that, and CC. Sabathia's four hit complete game, the Brewers clinched their first playoff appearance since 1982. The special version of the bobblehead has a slightly thicker base and a button to press. When pressed, the bobblehead plays Bob Uecker's call of the HR. There are rumored to be only 1,000 made. Many didn't work right away, and others stop working as time passes. With no way to open the base and change the battery it is only a matter of time before none of the bobbles talk. There are people who have cut open the base with a Dremel tool and attempted repair. I found this photo online. It shows what is inside the talking bobblehead base. Below is a youtube video of the sound it makes.
  • On June 18th 2009 there was some flooding in Miller Park from heavy rain storms. Some of the Jason Kendal bobbles waiting for distribution at the upcoming game were damaged in the flooding.
  • The last bobble of the season was made to honor General Manager Doug Melvin. Arguably, it was his move in 2008 to trade Matt LaPorta, Michael Brantley, Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson to Cleveland midseason that propelled the Brewers into the playoffs, as Sabathia basically carried the Brewers on his back the entire way.
