BELARUS

MINSK

The Belarussian capital Minsk has a 30.3 kilometer rapid transit network which came into operation in 1984. The system consists of two lines which are served by thirty stations.

Minsk is also served by eight tram lines, seventy trolleybus lines and one hundred bus services.

METRO

AIR

Minsk is served by Minsk International Airport. The airport is served by regular buses with links into downtown Minsk, including Bus # 300 which leaves the airport, daily, every thirty minutes between 04.15 hours and 01.00 hours.

The bus journey takes around one hour and twenty minutes to reach the city's Centralny Bus Station or the Moskovski Bus Station.

RAIL & BUS

The city is served by the Minsk Passazhirsky / Мінск Пасажырскі / Railway Station located along the city's Station Square. The station provides local, regional, national and international rail services and is also served by it's own metro station, the Ploschad Lenina Station, located on the Moscovskaya Line.

The railway station is also annexed to the city's regional and long distance bus terminal.

SPORT

PRAGUE / PRAHA

The Czech Republic's capital city Prague has a 59.4 kilometer underground, rapid transit system which became operational in 1974. The system consists of three lines which are served by fifty seven stations.

The Prague Metro has an open ticket system where tickets can be used in conjunction with the city's trains, buses, Petrin Hill Funicular and the chairlift at Prague Zoo. All tickets must be purchased before entry onto the platform and there are plain clothes inspectors on duty to enforce this.

The system operates daily between 04.45 hours and 00.00 hours.

The metro system's Namesti Miru station, located on Line A, is home to Europe's longest escalator at one hundred meters long.

Prague is also served by a 142 kilometer tram network.

Prague is served by the Vaclav Havel International Airport.

The airport is served by several bus routes into downtown Prague including the Airport Express (AE) which runs daily, every thirty minutes between 06.35 hours and 22.05 hours and terminates at Praha Hlavni Nadrazi / Prague Central Railway Station, in a journey time of around fifty minutes.

The Airport Express (AE) service calls at Vaclav Havel International Airport Terminal 2 - Vaclav Havel International Airport Terminal 1 - Namesti Republiky - Masaryk - Prague Central Railway Station / Praha hlavní nádraží.

International passengers can purchase a one way ticket from the driver for this service, you must show your flight boarding pass as proof of travel, but local users must present a CD ticket to the driver when boarding. CD tickets can only be purchased online and are not available at the airport or from the bus driver, nor are any of the usual Prague travel cards allowed on this service.

Between midnight and 04.45 hours local bus service # 510 leaves from outside the terminal buildings every thirty minutes for the IP Pavlova metro station located on Pavlov Square in the city's Vinohrady District. This vast station which is the busiest on the Prague Metro is served by the metro system's Line C.

RAIL

Prague Central Railway Station / Praha hlavní nádraží - is a large and iconic city landmark located along the city's Wilsonova. The station provides many regional, national and international rail services and is also served by it's own metro station on Line C and several of the city's tram lines.

BUS

Prague is served by the Florenc Bus Station located along the city's Krizikova. The station provides both national and international bus services and is located very near to the Florenc metro station located on metro Line B and metro Line C.

GREECE

There is currently a metro system under construction in the city of Thessaloniki which is due to be opened in 2018.

ATHENS

The Greek capital city Athens is served by two rapid transit systems, the 25.6 kilometer Athens to the Port of Piraeus line, which consists of one line which is served by twenty four stations and became operational in 1869 and the 35 kilometer city metro, an underground commuter network which consists of two lines which are served by thirty three stations which became operational in 2000.

Athens is also served by three line, electric tram network, a twenty five line, electric trolleybus network and a six route commuter rail service.

ATHENS TOURIST SPOTS

Athen's Akropolis Complex/ Ακρόπολη Αθηνών, which is home to twenty one important ancient monuments, is accessed by way of two tree lined avenues which are flanked by several shops and cafes. These two avenue's are served by way of a short walk from either the Akropoli Station / Ακρόπολη located on metro Line 2 or the Thissio Station / Σταθμός Θησείου located on metro Line 1.

The city's Syntagma Square / Constitution Square, which is home to the country's Old Royal Palace / Hellenic Parliament Building, can be accessed from the Syntagma Station / Σύνταγμα located on lines 2 and 3 of the metro system and lines 4 and 5 of the city tram system.

Athen's main shopping centre is located along Ermou Street / Οδός Ερμού which is easily accessed from either the Syntagma Station / Σύνταγμα, which is located on lines 2 and 3 of the metro system and lines 4 and 5 of the city tram system, or the Monastiriki / Monastery Station / Μοναστηράκι, which is located on both the metro system's Line 1 and Line 3.

AIR

Athens is served by the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. The airport, is served by it's own metro station at the terminus of Line 2. The airport station is accessed by way of a pedestrian bridge above the arrivals hall and trains run daily, every 30 minutes, between 05.30 hours and 00.15 hours.

The journey into downtown Athens takes around forty minutes and tickets can be purchased from the airport station kiosk.

PORT

Athen's cruise liner terminal is located at the Port of Piraeus / Πειραιάς - and is served by it's own metro station at the terminus of Line 1.

RAIL

Athen's central railway station, the Athens Larissa Railway Station / Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Αθηνών is located along Domokou Avenue in the city's Kolonos - Κολωνός - District and is served by it's own metro station on Line 3.

BUS

Athen's is served by two inter-city bus terminals, neither of which are served by the city metro.

The Kifissos Bus Station located on the city's Kifisou Avenue.This bus station provides regional and national bus services.

The Liossion Bus Station is located along the city's Liossion Street. This bus station provides inter-city services within Greece.

BUDAPEST

Hungary's capital city Budapest has a 32.1 kilometer rapid transit system which consists of four lines which are served by fifty two stations.

The system's original Line 1 is a 4.4 kilometer line from the city's Vorosmarty Square to City Park, which was opened in 1896, making it the second underground railway to be built in the world.

The railway line was designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, the only metro system in the world to have been awarded this distinction.

Budapest is also served by an extensive tram network, fifteen trolleybus lines and five commuter rail services.

Budapest is served by the Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The airport is served by it's own train station at Terminal 2, known as Ferihegy Station, on a regional train line which terminates at Nyugati Railway Station in downtown Budapest.

The airport trains run every thirty minutes and the journey time is around twenty five minutes.

Tickets can be purchased from a kiosk at the airport train station which is open daily between 06.00 hours and 18.00 hours.

Budapest is served by four inter city railway stations, they are;

The Nyugati Railway Station which is located along the city's Terez Korut and is served by it's own metro station on metro Line 3.

WARSAW

Most of Poland's cities are served by vast urban tram systems but it's capital city Warsaw also provides a 23.1 kilometer rapid transit system which consists of one line which is served by twenty one stations, which was opened in 1995.

Warsaw is also served by a cross city rail line, which links the city's bus and train stations, a thirty two kilometer commuter rail line and a one hundred and twenty kilometer tram network.

AIR

Warsaw is served by two airports -

The Chopin International Airport which is served by it's own train station, the Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina Station, which can be accessed by a 300 meter walk across the bus park, situated outside the arrivals hall. There are two regional trains which serve the airport, the S2 Line which is used to access Warsaw Zachodnia Railway Station and the Warsaw National Football Stadium and the S3 line which is used to access Warsaw Centralna Railway Station. Both trains depart the airport station every 15 minutes and the journey time is around twenty five minutes.

Tickets for the trains can be purchased from ticket vending machines found either in the arrivals hall or on board the trains.

The Modlin International Airport which is served by a bus service with a timetable which is dependent upon flight arrival times.

Tickets can be purchased from the airport sales kiosk and the journey to downtown Warsaw takes around forty minutes and there are drop off points at both Mlociny metro station and Centrum metro station. The buses can be found right outside the terminal building.

RAIL

Warsaw's Central Railway Station / Warszawa Centralna railway station is located along the city's Aleji Jerozolimskie although it's main entrance is located on Śródmieście.

The station is flanked by two regional railway stations, the West Railway Station / Warszawa Śródmieście WKD, which is served by the city Commuter Rail, and the East Railway Station / Warszawa Śródmieście PKP, which is served by the Cross City Rail.

BUS

Warsaw's main inter-city bus terminal is located at the West Bus Station / Dworzec Autobusowy Warszawa Zachodnia - located along the city's Aleji Jerozolimskie.

The station is not served by the metro system but it is located just a short walk from the city's West Railway Station / Warszawa Śródmieście WKD, which is located next to the city's Central Railway Station, which is located next to the Warsaw East Railway Station / Warszawa Śródmieście PKP.

The railway stations are just a few meters away but they are located across a very busy main road, so it's probably better to take a taxi to the station entrance that you want.

SPORT

Poland's international football matches are played at the Stadion Narodowy which can be accessed by way of a short walk from the Wawrzysew metro station.

There is a metro station at the stadium which is presently under construction which is due to be opened sometime in 2015.

Bucharest is served by two airports, they are;

The Henri Coanda International Airport, sometimes listed as the Otopeni Airport. The airport is served by a railway station located some 900 meters from the airport terminal.The train station can be accessed by way of a shuttle bus from outside the arrivals hall which leaves several minutes before the train is due in the station. The train shuttle bus departs the arrivals hall at the following times -

Tickets for the train can be purchased from the ticket office located in the arrivals hall or the ticket office located at the train station. The shuttle bus is free. The journey into downtown Bucharest takes around one hour and terminates at the city's Gara de Nord Railway Station, which is served by metro Line M1 and metro Line M4.

Bucharest's Gara de Nord Railway Station is an iconic building located along the city's Calea Târgovitei. The station, which is the largest railway station in the country, provides many local, national and international rail services and is also served by it's own metro station on metro Line M1 and metro Line M4.

DNIPROPETROVSK, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk has a 7.8 kilometer rapid transit system which became operational in 1995. The system consists of one line which is served by six stations, making it one of the world's smallest metro systems. However the line will be extended as there are another four stations currently under construction.

The Ukrainian capital city Kiev has a 65 kilometer rapid transit system which became operational in 1960. The system consists of three lines which are served by fifty stations.

Situated on the system's Line One is the Arsenalna - Арсенальна Metro Station, which is the deepest metro station in the world at 107 meters deep.

Kiev is also served by an extensive tram and trolleybus network and is planning a light rail, commuter service.

Kiev is served by two airports -

The Borysil International Airport which is served by a shuttle bus service which links passengers to the Boryspilska / Бориспiльська metro station situated on metro line 3.

Transfers from metro line 3 can then be made at Zoloti Vorota / Золотi ворота metro station for metro Line 1 or from the Palats Sportu / Палац Спорту metro station for metro Line 2.

Metro Line 3 also serves the city's Olimpiyskiy Football Stadium / Національний спортивний комплекс Олімпійський which is served by the Olimpska / Олімпійська metro station.

The Zhulyany Airport is served by tram route # 22 which links both airport terminals with the Vokzalna / Вокзальна metro station which is annexed to Kiev's Passzhyrski Central Railway Station / Київ Пасажирський on Line 1 of the metro.

Alternatively, situated just five hundred meters from Zhulyany Airport arrivals hall is the Volynsky Railway Station / Київ Пасажирський which provides a regional train service through to the city's Passzhyrski Central Railway Station / Київ Пасажирський.

RAIL

Kiev's central railway station - Київ Пасажирський - is located along the city's Vokzalna Ploshcha and is served by the Vokzalna / Вокзальна metro station located on Line 1.

BUS

Kiev is served by several bus stations the two largest of which are the city's central bus station and it's inter-city bus station.

The central bus station is served by the Demiivska / Демiïвська metro station and the inter-city bus station is served by the Ipodrom / Іподром metro station, both of which are served by the metro's Line 2.

SPORT

Ukraine's international football matches are played at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium / Національний спортивний комплекс Олімпійський.

This vast multi-sports and events complex is located in the city's Cherepanov Hill / вулиця Червоноармійська area and can be accessed from several different metro stations but the nearest two are the Olimpska / Олімпійська or Palats Sportu / Палац Спорту metro stations both of which are served by the metro system's Line 2.

KHARKIV

KHARKIV, Kharkiv Oblast

The city of Kharkiv has a 39.6 kilometer rapid transit system which became operational in 1975. The system consists of three lines which are served by twenty nine stations.

To enter the metro you need to buy a token from one of the automated machines located at any of the station's entrances. One token is valid for one trip, however far you are traveling, which means you pay the same fare how ever long your journey is. The token then needs to be inserted into the turnstile on the station platform in order to board the train.

Kharkiv is also served by an extensive tram network.

Kharkiv Railway Station is located in the city centre. The station is served by the Pivdenny / Пiвденний metro station located on Line 1 and several of the city tram lines.

SPORT

Football Club Metalist Kharkiv play their home and international games at the Metalist Stadium / Обласний спортивний комплекс. The stadium can be accessed from the Sportyvna / Спортивна metro station on the Line 1 of the metro, where it is located just next door to the stadium.

KRYVYI RIH

KRYVI RIH, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The city of Kryvyi Rih has an 18.7 kilometer light rail, metro tram, 6.8 kilometers of which is located underground, which came into operation in 2009. The system consists of three lines which are served by eighteen stations.

Kryvyi Rih is also served by a thirteen line, traditional tram network and a twenty three route, electric trolleybus system, both of which are owned and operated by the city council.

Kriyvyi Rih is served by the Lozovatka International Airport. Taxi's are available from outside the terminal buildings for transfers into the city centre which generally have a journey time of around thirty minutes.

RAIL

Kriyvyi Rih's Krivoy Rog Central Railway Station is located along the city's Lenin Comosol Street / Ulytsia Leninskoho Komsomolu .The station is not served by the metrotram.
