Lines & Stations Of The TOKYO Metro

GENERAL INFORMATION

Japan's capital city Tokyo is served by three rapid transit systems which between them make up the busiest metro system, in passenger number, in the world. The combined systems, which originally opened in 1927 with the Tokyo Metro, regularly carry around eight million passengers a day, that's around 3.16 billion people every year.

All of Tokyo's metro stations provide station signage, train voice overs and system maps in both Kanji / Japanese and English. For those who don't understand either Latin or Kanji script both the Tokyo Metro and the Toei Subway stations, along with their platforms, are consecutively numbered on each of their colour coded lines.

For example Shinjuku Station, which is number 8 in the station numbering system, which is located on the metro's Maranouchi Line, which is colour coded as the red line, will therefore be displayed on maps as M8 in a red circle o. This makes the system very easy to get around whatever language one speaks. For more information visit - www.tokyometro.jp.

Tokyo area transportation services provide passengers with two contactless travel cards, the Pasmo Card and the Suica Card both of which can be used on several rail services in and around the city including the Tokyo Metro, the Toei Subway, the Tokyo Monorail, the Keikyu Airport Express, the JR Yamanote Line/ Shinagawa Loop and some local commuter and heavy rail services.
