GENERAL INFORMATION

Russia's capital city is served by a vast rapid transit network which began operation in 1935.

The city's metro system is at present 308.7 kilometers long and consists of twelve lines which are served by one hundred and eighty six stations.

The system covers the federal city of Moscow and the two outlying towns of Krasnogorsk and Reutov.

The system is reputed to be the busiest system in the world with a daily ridership of 8.9 million people.

The system operates daily between 05.30 hours and 01.00 hours.

In 2008 the system began using disposable, contactless, magnetic card tickets making the system the first in the world to run exclusively on an automatic fare collection system.

The city's Park Pebody / Парк Победы / Victory Park metro station, located on metro Line 5 and metro Line 8, is Moscow's deepest metro station at eighty four meters deep and is also home to the world's longest single escalator which is 126.8 meters long.

Moscow is also served by a forty seven route tram system, two river cruise terminals on the Moskva River, a 4.7 kilometer monorail and the AeroExpress airport rail link which covers three of the city's five airports.

Line 13 - Kozhukhovskaya Line / Кожуховская

19.2 km with 9 stations between Aviamotornaya and Nekrasovka which will link with lines 7 and 8.


Third Interchange Contour / Третий пересадочный контур

A second central Moscow circle line with 12 stations which will link with lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Line 8 / Kalininskaya line / Калининская

A five station extension of the west bound section of Line 8 located between Minskaya and Olimpiyskaya Derevnya.

BELORUSSKI STATION

The city of Moscow is served by nine main line railway stations which between them provide both national and international rail services,

all of which can be accessed by way of the city's metro system.

Belorusski Railway Station / Белорусский вокзал

Also known as the Smolenskaya Station is located along the city's Tverskaya Zastava Square. The station provides local, regional,

national and international train services and is also linked to the city metro lines 2 and 5 and the AeroExpress service to and from

Sheremetyevo International Airport.

Kazanski Railway Station / Каза́нский вокза́л

Is located on Komsomolskaya Square in the Krasnoselsky district of the city. The station provides both national and international rail

services and is also linked to the city metro lines 1 and 5.

Kiyevski Railway Station / Киевский вокзал

Is located along the city's Kiyevsky Square. The station provides regional, national and international rail services and is also linked to the

city metro lines 3, 4 and 5 and the AeroExpress services to and from Vnukova International Airport.

Kurski Railway Station / Ку́рский вокза́л

Is located along the city's Kurskogo Vokzala Square and provides regional, national and international rail services and is also linked to

the city metro lines 3, 5 and 10.

Leningradski Railway Station / Ленингра́дский вокза́л

Also known as the Passazhirskaya Station, is located on the city's Komsomolskaya Square and provides regional, national and

international rail services and is also linked to the city metro lines 1 and 5.

Pavletski Railway Station / Павелецкий вокзал

Is located on the city's pavletskaya Square and provides regional, national and international rail services and is also linked to the city

metro lines 2 and 5 and AeroExpress services to and from Domodedova International Airport.

Rizhski Railway Station / Рижский вокзал

Is located on the city's Rizhskaya Square and provides regional and suburban rail services in and around Moscow and is also

linked to the city metro line 6. The station is also situated next door to the Museum of the Moscow Railways.

Savolovski Railway Station / Савёловский вокза́л

Is located on Savyolovskaya Square in the Maryina Roscha district of the city. The station provides regional and suburban services in and

around Moscow and is also linked to the city metro line 9. The station is also served by a local bus station.


Yaroslavski Railway Station / Яросла́вский вокза́л

Is located on the city's Komsomolskaya Square and provides regional, national and international rail services, including

the 9,289 kilometer, Trans Siberian Express, which travels across Russia between Moscow and Vladivostok. The station is also

linked to the city metro lines 1 and 5.

MOSCOW CENTRAL BUS STATION

Moscow is served by several bus stations but it's main inter city, Central Bus Station - Моско́вский автовокзал - pictured above, is located along the city's Uralskaya Ulitsa.

The station can be accessed by way of the nearby Shchyolkovskaya - Щёлковская - metro station located at the terminus of the metro system's Line 3.

The metro system's Line 3 provides links to metro Lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 and eight out of the nine mainline railway stations, with Rizhski Railway Station being the exception.

Some Inter city bus routes can also be accessed from outside Domodedovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Tushinskaya, Yugo-Zapadnaya and Vykhino metro stations.

THE AEROEXPRESS

Moscow is served by four international airports and one regional airport. The city's three largest international airports are served by way

of the AeroExpress airport rail service, which links the airports with three of the city's main line railway stations. The five Moscow airports are;

Bykovo Airport / Аэропорт Быково

Is the local regional and national airport.

Domodedovo International Airport / Московский аэропорт Домоде́дово

Is served by the AeroExpress service to Pavletski Railway Station.

Ostafyevo International Airport / Междунаро́дный аэропо́рт Оста́фьево

Caters to corporate and private jets only.

Sheremetyevo International Airport / Международный Аэропорт Шереме́тьево

Is served by the AeroExpress service to Bellorusski Railway Station.

Vnukovo International Airport / Международный аэропорт Внуково

Is served by the AeroExpress service to Kiyevski Railway Station.

ST BASIL'S CATHEDRAL

For Moscow's most famous green area, Gorky Park / Центральный парк культуры и отдыха - disembark from either Oktyabrskaya / Октя́брьская metro station on Line 5 and Line 6 or the Park Kultury / Парк Культу́ры metro station on Line 1 and Line 5 and the park is a short walk away.

For Red Square / Красная площадь where the Kremlin Building, the White House and St Basil's Cathedral , pictured above, are all located, disembark from either the Ohotnii Ryad / Охотный ряд metro station on Line 1, Teatralnaya / Театра́льная metro station on Line 2 or the Ploshad Revolutsii - Пло́щадь Револю́ции metro station on Line 3.

To access Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre - Большо́й теа́тр disembark from either the Ohotnii Ryad / Охотный ряд metro station on Line 1, Teatralnaya / Театра́льная metro station on Line 2 or the Ploshad Revolutsii / Пло́щадь Револю́ции metro station on Line 3.
