Six of Australia's cities are served by extensive commuter rail services but only two of them are actually served by an urban metro train system, as most of Australia's cities prefer tram or bus travel to urban rail travel.

Australia's largest city, Sydney, is served by a 114 kilometer suburban rail network which consists of seven lines, a 3.6 kilometer monorail, a 24.3 kilometer underground urban loop and a 12.8 kilometer light rail.

During the hours between midnight and 05.00 hrs Sydney's suburban rail services are replaced by an all night bus network.

Sydney is served by the Kingsford Smith International Airport. The airport is served by an underground railway station which provides an airport link service which operates a daily service, every ten minutes, between 04.56 and 12.54 hours, linking the airport with downtown Sydney by way of the Green Square to Walli Creek / T2 Airport Line.

The T2 Line stops at - Green Square - Mascot - Terminal 2 (for Domestic Flights) - Terminal 3 (for International Flights) and Walli Creek. For transfers into Sydney change at Walli Creek for the T4 / Eastern Suburbs Line for services to Sydney (CBD) and Sydney Central Railway Station.

RAIL

Sydney's Central Railway Station is the largest train station in Australia. The station is located at the southern end of Sydney's CBD and is served by entrances on Railway Square, Pitt Street, Eddy Avenue, Chalmers Street, Elizabeth Street and Haymarket.

The station is served by several local, regional and inter-state rail services and it's own metro station for connections to the city's T1, T2, T3 and T4 lines of the city's commuter rail services and the City Circle /City Loop.

The station is also served by the internationally renowned Indian Pacific and Alice trans-continental rail services.

BUS

Sydney's inter-city coach terminal is situated on Eddy Avenue in the Haymarket district of the city, located on the south side of the CBD / Central Business District.

SPORT

Sydney's premier multi-sports centre is the Allianz Stadium located in the Moore Park area of the city. On events days there are special shuttle bus services laid on from Sydney's Central Railway Station.

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

To access Sydney's iconic Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks or the Port Jackson Ferry Terminal the nearest suburban rail station is Circular Quay located on the T3 Bankstown Line and the City Circle/City Loop.

Adelaide, South Australia

South Australia's capital city, Adelaide, has an extensive commuter, light rail and tram system consisting of six broad gauge train lines and one tram line.

TRAM

AIR

Adelaide is served by Adelaide International Airport. The airport is served by several local bus services into downtown Adelaide including the JetBus Service.

The JetBus can be found at the left hand side of the Pedestrian Plaza and depart every fifteen minutes between 04.50 hrs and 23.05 hrs

Please obtain a MetroTicket from your driver as you board the bus but make sure you catch the correct bus as there are several JetBus services, they are -

J1 - For services between Adelaide City Centre and Glenelg.

J1A - For services to Elisabeth.

J1X - An express service to Adelaide City Centre.

J2 - For services between Adelaide City Centre and Harbour Town.

J7 & J8 - For services between the West Lakes and the Marion Interchange.

RAIL

Adelaide's main railway station is the Adelaide Central located on the city's North Terrace. The station is linked to all of the city's commuter train services and the Glenelg Tram.

Adelaide Parklands Railway Terminal is located on Richmond Road in Keswick. This station caters to long distance, interstate trains including the Ghan service from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs, the Indian Pacific service from Perth to Sydney and the Overland service from Adelaide to Melbourne.

Parklands is not on any train or main bus routes so take a taxi if you are planning on travelling to and from this station.

BUS

Adelaide Central Bus Station is located on Franklin Street, a major thoroughfare located in the centre of the city, where both interstate and intrastate buses can be caught.

Adelaide runs two free bus services, one of which is the world's very first solar powered bus known as the Tindo, and another service known as the City Loop. The Tindo buses, which run between Adelaide City Centre and North Adelaide, are numbered 98A & 98C and the City Loop buses, which run through the areas of the city centre that the Glenelg Tram doesn't access, are numbered 99A and 99C.

The buses run a seven days a week service travelling in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction and are available every fifteen minutes between 07.40 hrs and 18.00 hrs where they travel along the city's Grote Street, Morphett Street, Whitmore Square, Sturt Street, Halifax Street, Hutt Street, East Terrace and North Terrace with stops located at the city's Town Hall, Adelaide Oval, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, North Adelaide Library & Community Centre, Adelaide Women's & Children's Hospital, Adelaide Zoo, Parliament House, State Library, Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Adelaide Central Market.

PORT

Adelaide is also served by a vast port and harbour complex, known as Port Adelaide, which is also home to several museums and heritage centres. Port Adelaide is accessed by it's own railway station on the Outer Harbour Line.

SPORT

Adelaide is served by several sports and entertainment venues, the most prolific of which is the Adelaide Oval, a multi-sports venue located in the Parklands area of the city. Brisbane, Queensland.

The city of Brisbane is served by a 259 kilometer commuter rail service which consists of three inner city lines and seven commuter lines. The service, which is known as the CityTrain, is served by one hundred and eighty seven stations.

Brisbane is served by two major railway stations, they are;

The Roma Street Railway Station located along the city's Roma Street. The station is part of a large transportation centre which also includes a large inter city bus station. The station is served by the Beenleigh Line, Cleveland Line and the Ipswich / Rosewood commuter rail services and all six of the city's long distance / inter-city rail services.

The Brisbane Central Railway Station which is located on the city's Ann Street, right opposite Anzac Square in the Central Business District. The station is served by all twelve of the CityTrain rail services and the two long distance Gold Coast Line and Sunshine Coast Line long distance / inter-city rail services.

SPORT

Brisbane's premier sporting venue is the Gabba, located in the suburb of Woolloongabba. The complex is located opposite the Woolloongabba Busway, where free buses from either the South Bank or Roma Street railway stations can be caught on match days.

GOLD COAST

Gold Coast, Queensland.

Queensland's Gold Coast is served by a 13 kilometer, light rail tram which is officially known as the G:Link but is more commonly referred to as the G. The light rail tram, which was opened in 2014, is served by sixteen stops and operates daily between 05.00 hours and 00.00 hours.

Bus # 760 runs daily, every thirty minutes, between 07.00 hours and 19.00 hours and travels to the Varsity Lakes Railway Station, which is served by the Gold Coast Line inter-city rail service to Brisbane.

RAIL

Gold coast is served by the Varsity Lakes Railway Station which is located along Coromandel Lane in the suburb of Varsity Lakes. The station is served by the Gold Coast Line inter-city rail service to Brisbane.

MELBOURNE

Melbourne, Victoria.

The city of Melbourne is home to an extensive commuter rail system which consists of sixteen lines which are served by 211 stations and an underground urban train service known as the City Loop.

The city is also served by the world's largest tram network at 250 kilometers long.

Melbourne has recently introduced a twenty four hour service at the weekends with trains leaving Flinders Street Railway Station every hour. Trams will also operate every thirty minutes on route numbers 19, 67, 75, 86, 96 and 109 and the city's V-Line coaches will depart from outside Southern Cross Railway Station at 02:00 hrs for Bendigo, Ballarat, Traralgon, and Geelong.

The service runs every fifteen minutes between 06.00 hrs and 23.30 hrs and every thirty minutes between 00.00 hrs and 06.00 hrs. The journey takes around twenty minutes and terminates at Melbourne's Southern Cross Railway Station / Spencer Street Station.

Melbourne is served by two major railway stations, they are;

The Flinder's Street Railway Station, is served by several regional services within Victoria, thirteen of the city's commuter rail lines, several tram services, the long distance Overland rail service and the City Loop.

The Southern Cross Railway Station / Spencer Street Station, for interstate services to Adelaide, Canberra and Sydney. The stations is also served by two of the city's commuter rail services, the Spencer Street tram stop and the City Loop.

BUS

Melbourne's central bus and coach terminal is located at Southern Cross adjacent to the Southern Cross / Spencer Street Railway Station. The station is accessed by way of the Spencer Street tram stop and the Southern Cross metro station on the City Loop.

CRUISE LINER

Melbourne's cruise liner and ferry terminal for services to Tasmania can be accessed by way of the Station Pier stop on tram # 109.

SPORTING VENUES

Melbourne is the home to several of Australia's prestigious sporting events including the Melbourne Cup horse race, the Melbourne Grand Prix and the Australian Open tennis tournament.

The Melbourne Cup is held at the Flemington Race Course which is served by it's own train station on race days.Trains to the race course can be caught on either Platform 8 or 9 at Flinders Street Railway Station. On non race days the race course can be accessed by Tram # 57.

The Melbourne Grand Prix circuit is located at Albert Park which is accessed by Tram # 96 or Tram # 112.

The Australian Open is held at Melbourne Park, a vast sporting complex which is the venue of several other sporting events. The park can be accessed by way of the Richmond or Jollimont railway stations both of which are served by train services from Flinders Street Railway Station.

Melbourne is also home to the Melbourne Cricket Ground located at Yarra Park. The cricket ground can also be located by way of the Richmond or Jollimont railway stations which are served by several train services from Flinders Street Railway Station.

Melbourne is also home to two multi sports and concert venues - the Etihad Stadium, also known as the Docklands Stadium located at Harbour Esplanade and the AAMI Park, also known as the Rectangular Stadium located at Edwin Flack Field.

The Etihad Stadium is located just a short walk from the city's central business district or Southern Cross Railway Station, by walking over the Bourke Street pedestrian Bridge.

Melbourne's largest sports arena is the AAMI Stadium, which can be accessed from the Richmond Railway Station which is served by trains on the Alamein Line, Belgrave Line, Cranbourne Line, Frankston Line, Lilydale Line or the Sandringham Line, all of which can be accessed from Flinders Street Railway Station or the Pakenham Line service which can be accessed from the Southern Cross / Spencer Street Railway Station.

PERTH

Perth, Western Australia.

Western Australia's capital city Perth is served by the 173.1 kilometer urban light rail and suburban commuter system known as the TransPerth Metro which consists of six lines which are served by sixty nine stations.

AIR

Perth is served by Perth International Airport. The airport is served by several airport shuttle buses for transfers into downtown Perth, the City of Fremantle and the Port of Fremantle.

The buses, which run daily between the hours of 05.25 hours and 22.50 hours, can be found at the bus lane outside Terminal 3 and Terminal Four.

There is a free inter-terminal transfer bus which operates 24/7 for transportation from domestic Terminal 2 and international Terminal 1 to the bus lanes located at Terminal 3 and Terminal 4.

The bus journey into Perth takes around fifty minutes and the journey time to Fremantle takes around forty minutes.

For transportation to the City of Mandurah take the Fremantle Line train through to Perth Railway Station then change there for the Mandurah Line. This line is 70.1 kilometers long and is served by eleven stations located at Perth Railway Station - Esplanade - Canning Bridge - Bull Creek - Murdoch - Cockburn Central - Kwinana - Wellard - Rockingham - Warnbro - Mandurah Railway Station.

PERTH RAILWAY STATIONS

The City of Perth is served by the Perth Railway Station which has entrances located on the city's Wellington Street, Roe Street, William Street and Murray Street. The station is served by the Armadale/Thornlie, the Joondalup and Midland commuter rail services, the Fremantle and Mandurah inter-city rail services and the Transwa Australind long distance rail service to Bunbury in southern Western Australia.

Perth is also served by the East Perth Railway Station which is located along the city's West Parade. This station is served by the Midland Line commuter rail service and the long distance Indian Pacific rail service to Sydney in New South Wales and the long distance Transwa Prospector rail service to Kalgoorlie / Boulder in eastern Western Australia.

FREMANTLE RAILWAY STATION

The port city of Fremantle is served by the Fremantle Railway Station which has entrances located on the city's Market Street, Queen Street, Phillimore Street and Elder Place. The station is served by the Fremantle Line for services into the city of Perth.

The Fremantle Line is 18.7 kilometers long and consists of seventeen stations located at Perth Railway Station - City West - West Leederville - Subiaco - Daglish - Shenton Park - Karrakata - Loch Street - Showgrounds - Claremont - Swanbourne - Grant Street - Cottesloe - Mosman Park - Victoria Street - North Fremantle - Fremantle Railway Station.

MANDURAH RAILWAY STATION

The city of Mandurah is served by the Mandurah Railway Station which is located along Galgoyle Road in the city's Greenfields district. The station is served by the Mandurah Line rail service for links into the city with Perth.

The Mandurah Line is 70.1 kilometers long and is served by eleven stations located at Perth Railway Station - Esplanade - Canning Bridge - Bull Creek - Murdoch - Cockburn Central - Kwinana - Wellard - Rockingham - Warnbro - Mandurah Railway Station.

BUS

Perth's central bus and coach terminal is located on Roe Street right next door to the Perth Central Railway Station, which is served by all of the city's metro services.

SPORT

Perth is served by two premier sporting venues, the Paterson's Stadium, also known as the Subiaco Oval, located on Robert's Road in the suburb of Subiaco and the Perth Arena located along Wellington Street.

The Paterson's Stadium can be accessed from either the Subiaco or West Leederville stations located on the Fremantle Line.

Perth Arena can be accessed by way of a short walk from Perth Central Station or by way of the Yellow Cat bus service which stops right outside the venue.

AIR

Auckland is served by the Auckland International Airport which is located in Mangere some 21 kilometers south of the city centre.

The airport is served by a 24 hour airport bus service known as the Airbus Express which leaves from outside both terminals every ten minutes and travels to the ferry terminal on Queen Street.

Tickets for this bus can be purchased online, from airport kiosks or from the driver.

RAIL, BUS & FERRY

Auckland’s main transportation hub is located along the city’s Queen Street where the city ferry terminal, inter city bus station and central railway station can all be found.

The train station, which is known as the Britomart Transportation Centre, has it’s main entrance located along Queen Elisabeth II Square and is one of only two underground railway stations in the whole of the country.

The station is served by three of the four metro lines and the Northern Explorer inter city rail service between Auckland and the country’s capital city Wellington.

Despite being just 628 meters long the Wellington Cable Car is served by five stations as it makes it's way between Lambton Quay and the Wellington Botanic Gardens located in the hill suburb of Kelburn.

Kelburn is the home of the city's Victoria Campus of the University of Wellington making the areas in and around the other three stations located at Clifton, Talavera and Salamanca popular with students.

AIR

Wellington is served by the Wellington International Airport located just six kilometers from the town centre. The airport is served by a regular bus service known as the Airport Flyer, which travels between the airport and the Wellington Railway Station on Bunny Street.

FERRY

For inter island ferry services the Wellington Ferry Terminal is located on the city's Aotea Quay which is just a fifteen minute walk from the city's railway station.The terminal is served by a regular shuttle bus for passengers wishing to travel to the city railway station on Bunny Street.
