DIGITAL EDUCATION ECOSYSTEM RESEARCH PROJECT (DEER)
The Digital Education Ecosystem Research (DEER) Study was initiated in July 2013. This research study is managed by the Learning Links Foundation and facilitated by local in-country teams of education experts and market researchers. The countries of Brazil and India were selected for the first round of the DEER study, with the potential to expand this digital education research to other countries in the future.
The goal of the DEER project is to gain a better understanding of the leading K-12 textbook publishers and traditional content providers in our country, the products they offer, and the role they and other emerging digital content providers are likely to play in the future.
The purpose of the study is to gain valuable insight about:
Widely adopted digital education products, including their curriculum content, product features, and functionality
The organizations that develop and deliver these products
Underlying consideration about educational content development, product design and production, sales and procurement, and implementation
Technology requirements and limitations with regard to preferred hardware and operating systems, as well as connectivity and bandwidth
The project hopes to benefit all education stakeholders including teachers, procurement officers, parents, and other individuals and organizations who are seeking digital content for students in grades K-12; content providers and technology developers who are seeking partners to produce new products; start-up companies and organizations who are seeking funders to bring new products to market or to scale existing products; and researchers who are seeking a better understanding of how digital content can help students develop the skills they need to succeed in today’s knowledge economy.
