Excellence Award: Nurturing the Spirit of Innovation among Girl Children
In an effort to raise awareness and engage the young generation with informal science learning Intel Education organized a Science Carnival on the occasion of Children’s Day on 14th November 2014 at the Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar, New Delhi.
(Nurturing the Spirit of Innovation among Girl Children” is an initiative by Learning Links Foundation under the aegis of Intel Innovate for India, which aims to promote and strengthen Innovative practices among girl children through Initiatives for Research and Innovation in Science, across select states in India)
The program also witnessed the launch of ‘Tech Girlz’ by Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi. This program would provide an amazing platform for young girls to come together and promote the scientific temper in them and would lead them to scientific aptitude, spurring creativity and the spirit of innovation.
An award ceremony was organized to felicitate the exemplar ideas submitted by the girl students and the teachers who encouraged them to participate in this initiative. Mrs Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament from New Delhi Constituency, Dr Tessy Thomas Project Director DRDO and Mr Ashutosh Chadha Director, Corporate Affairs, Intel South Asia presented the awards to the Teachers and Students. Appreciation Plaques were also presented to the respective Government representatives from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan and Mahila Samakhya Groups for supporting the implementation of initiative in their respective states.
The Foundation in partnership with APEX Bodies like Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyaan and Mahila Samakhya of Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand , Himachal Pradesh , Karnataka , Delhi and Gujarat promoted the culture of Innovation and Research among girl students in Government schools. The initiative extended to 279 Government Girls Schools & Kasturbai Gandhi Balika Vidyalay across eight states in India, 22946 Girl Students were empowered with the scientific research methodologies and techniques, Built capacity among 529 Science & Mathematics Teachers of Government Girls Schools & KGBV’s in remote areas about inquiry based methodology and scientific approaches, received 7235 Innovative scientific project Ideas from the Girls impacted
