KNOCKAVILLA COMMUNITY COUNCIL

PRIMARY SCHOOL’S QUIZ

Congratulations to Upperchurch primary school on winning the Michael Breen trophy in the 5th and 6th class category, while Donaskeigh primary school kept the home flag flying when they won the 3rd and 4th class category. The committee would like to thank all the schools who sent teams to the quiz last Friday in Knockavilla.

COMMUNITY TEXT ALERT:

The text alert scheme is now up and running in the parish for the past four weeks. Already, there has been reason to send out various texts relating to suspicious activity. All of this information was relayed to all the contributors signed up, as well as being sent directly to the Gardai. The committee would like to thank everyone who has rang or texted the community phone with the information, and we urge that anyone who becomes aware of vehicles and their passengers that may be out of the ordinary or might appear suspicious, to act immediately by contacting the community phone .The more information that comes into the community phone, the better chance the Gardai have of thwarting any potential criminal activity. Remember, when supplying any information, please try and have as much detail as possible,

i.e. type and colour of vehicle, full registration number and amount of passengers, and location. All information is given and supplied in full confidence.

The committee are also offering the opportunity to any farmers, businesses or householders the chance to purchase “text alert” polyboard signs for their own use to erect on their properties. If you are interested please contact any committee member in your area or phone the Community Alert phone by next week.

GRAVEYARD REGISTER.

The community council loaned out the register book for Ballintemple graveyard some few years ago. Unfortunately, the book wasn’t returned, so if anyone has it could they make contact with any member of the council to arrange its return.

TREE WEEK

Coillte are organising walks as part of Tree Week in their Marl Bog Forest property Dundrum on Wednesday next the 6th March. Walks will start at 10am,11:30am and 1pm over a 2k loop. Walk will also include a animal viewing point. Walk leaders will include representatives from Coillte, NPWS, and Cabragh Wetlands.

RAPAREE CYCLE CLUB NOTES

We had a great cycle on Sunday last and covered over 90km; bring on the ring of Kerry! We will again leave the venue on Sunday morning at 9.00am for our 30km & 60km cycles. Any one who is still looking to order the club jersey please contact Milo, Mike or Philip. We have a few female members and would like more, just log onto the Cycle Ireland web site and follow the link “Raparee cycle club” or just turn up on Sunday morning all are welcome.

TABLE QUIZ.

Knockavilla National School Parents Association are holding a table quiz in The Venue on Saturday next the 2nd March at 9pm table of four €40. Your support would be appreciated.

ART EXHIBITION IN AID OF SOUTH TIPP HOSPICE

An arts exhibition by local artists will be opened by the pride of Tipperary Aoife O'Meara in the Venue, Dundrum House Hotel on Wednesday the 27th of February at 8pm. a number of paintings and other items of art kindly donated by local artists will be for sale for hospice. There will be a cheese and wine reception. The charge on the night of €5 will go to South Tipperary hospice. Please come along and enjoy this exhibition and support a very worthy cause.
