JUNIOR (A) HURLING WEST FINAL.

I have attended many GAA games involving the Kickham club over the years but I cannot remember any that served up such an exciting encounter as the 2013 Junior (A) West Tipperary hurling final between Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams and Emly which was played in Golden on a perfect pitch

on Saturday afternoon last. There is a complete match report to be found in the sports pages of the Nationalist but suffice to say when you see a final score of Kickhams 1-24 and Emly 5-9 you know that it was a proverbial cracker. Everytime we thought that we had pulled away the Emly lads would dart through for a goal, but to score 1-24 showed just how accurate our scoring line was on the day. I am not going to start naming “man of the matches” here, and we had a few nominees, The Kickhams team on the day was a blend of the new and the old blood, the free spirit of youth and the experience and never say die attitude of the old warriors on the team which combined beautifully to pull us past the winning post. Though disappointed with the result Emly will know that kickhams probably deserved their victory on the day and our lads will surely know that they cannot afford such a glut of goals against us in future games. We wish both team’s the very best of luck in the Co. stages and we might just meet again later in the competition. Well done to our gallant team/panel and team management and here’s to the next outing.
