Learning Cycle
The Learning Cycle needs to be taken into account when planning a lesson.
The Teaching and Learning Management Plan is an ideal way to overview the cycle for implementation.
It's goal is to develop strategies for effective teaching and learning that also enhances the learning experience.
Developing the Lesson Plan as well as the Assessment Process are further developed from the teaching and Learning Management Plan.
First step is to identify the Context related to the learners and the environment the learning will take place in.
Then the Content or Learning Objectives need to be clarified using all relevant documents. This includes: curriculum documents, teaching standards, school polices and personal teaching philosophies.
It is important to assess where the learners are to clarify what needs to be covered. This assists with remediation, differentiation within a class, scaffolding and the development of individual learning plans.
Consider Pedagogy for the process and structure the lesson taking into account
Dimensions of Learning
Teaching Standards.
Thus the lesson plan is developed.
Once a Lesson plan has been developed it can be enacted. As part of this process reflection and adaption may be required.
Lastly we move onto assessing and reporting the learning outcomes. Which may also indicate further development and refinement of the teaching and learning plan.
As learning is an ongoing process so the cycle of learning is revealed.
Key Principles of Differentiated Instruction
1) The teacher is clear about what is important. They
know what students need to know, do and
understand.
2) Assessment and instruction are inseparable.
3) The teacher adjusts instruction in response to student
readiness, interests, and learning preferences.
4) The teacher understands, appreciates, and builds
upon student differences.
5) The goal is maximum growth and individual success.
6) Flexibility and responsiveness are necessary skills.
