Literacy across the curriculum involves developing multimodal literacy skills. These include writing, reading, competency with ICT, oral communication, presentations whether visual or oral.
For science I encourage reading literature that brings aspects of nature to life. Jean Craighead George is a wonderful author for this purpose related to biomes, conservation and action to prevent extinction. There is a range of good reads on the environment and sustainability thus encouraging reading on this topic is easy.
For physics consider reading 'Surely you're joking Mr. Feynman' R. Feynman, 1985.
Others to consider:
Chemistry: Oliver Sacks' 'Uncle Tungsten'.
'The Lemonade Trick' by S Corbet
For fun try 'Kitchen Science' by P Pentland and P Stoyles.
