Study skills for primary children is primarily via guidance and support for maintaining general skills (thinking, physiological), that is laying down the ground work. As this is very personalised, the general skills (writing, reading, accessing information) are grounded in individual's interests and strengths. External evaluation is observed and collected however not 'put unto' the child. Establishing and reinforcing their abilities (without negative impact of external expectations on products). This maintains natural curiosity, desire to learn and supports life long learning.
At the same time clear guidelines of socially appropriate behaviour is important for development of social skills along with emotional development. This includes identification of emotions, needs, desires, then articulation of them (asking for them) and finding ways / developing skills to meet those needs in socially appropriate ways. Thereby developing a personal sense of capability, confidence and achievement.
Maintain curiosity, exploration and develop related skills/ thinking habits.
Support 'Flow' experiences
Ensure safe and supportive environment: develop positive, supportive relationships, language skills, Social and emotional intelligence
Support and enhance creativity, lateral thinking.
Support physiological development (sensory motor skills, crafting) including neurological.
Upper primary:
Begin self assessment with regards to meeting intention. Supportive and empowering manager (How could you do even better? How could you achieve that? Perhaps... )
Introduce external criteria into their evaluation set for tasks, are they also meeting the needs of others.
