I believe the responsibilities of both the Learner and the Learning Facilitator in the Intentional Education Process*
are:
As a Mature Learner**:
1) Acknowledge ownership of learning.
2) Clarify personal learning goals/ objective.
3) Develop and maintain an 'Open/Growth Mind'
4) Maximise Learning via:
a) Know and understand personal learning styles.
b) Develop study/ learning skills.
c) Clarify learning objective/ goal.
d) Create and maintain study/ learning environment.
e) Plan learning and action it.
f) Prepare for learning sessions.
g) Ask questions (keep asking).
h) Consider and implement 'unlearning' when required.
These are the case for both Institutional and Self Education.
For introduction to the importance of unlearning consider the rebirth of the eagle.
As an Learning Facilitator:
1) Create and maintain a safe, comfortable and productive learning environment. When in Doubt,
Check it Out!
2) Be very clear and concise with learning objectives and tasks. Get it Done,
While having Fun!
3) Support Learners via:
a) Restate, reframe all content, instructions and requirements so all learners understanding expectations.
b) Scaffolding.
c) Provide supportive, encouraging and concrete feedback regularly.
d) Support learners 'learning to learn'.
e) Teach learners how to evaluate and develop their own work.
f) Support access to learning resources.
g) Be flexible and adapt.

* Intentional Educational Process is any education or learning that is consciously set. I acknowledge that much learning is simply part of life or purely for the fun of learning, in which case these responsibilities are considered differently.
**The Mature Learner is one that has a good grasp of learning skills, that is they have the basic skills. They are well on the road to being an Independent Learner. Prior to this stage the Learning Facilitator has the responsibility of understanding the Learner's stage of development as part of 'scaffolding and supporting the learner to learn' (3).
*** still clarifying responsibilities re unlearning - is it part of general responsibilities or aspect of specialised content, perhaps both? And SEL though this can be largely under 1) safe, comfortable and productive learning environment.
