Home For Christmas

Birds chirping, branches bare

Covered in a frost

Lazily a breath expands

Expounding memories lost

Bundled warm with freezing nose

Remembering a time

When things were simple, full of joy

Chanting carolous rhyme

Wagon wheels by horse are drawn

Lovers kiss within

Making brand new memories

To share with younger kin

A wreathe behind it bungles on

As brick road makes it bounce

In the distance skaters fall

Laughter is pronounced

Snow begins to flutter thick

The children spark with glee

The magic of the time glows bright

Surrounding every tree

Steadily he keeps his pace

Pulls jacket tightly warm

Embracing all the beauty there

And acting not forlorn

Passing by the retail shops

The windows show more smiles

Steaming coffee drinkers talk

Of things they find worthwhile

The snowmen wave a cheery stick

While naked in their scarves

Wafting smells of ham and turkey

Rise as each man carves

He clambers up his lonely steps

Careful not to slip

Inserts a key into the lock

With metal-sounding zip

Entering his one room home

Family photos on his wall,

He cozily sits by the fire

Staring down the hall

The sounds of joy start drowning out

As snow falls silent down

Then quietly a knock is heard

Reversing his long frown

Curious he takes a stand

And looks through peeping glass

A child stands awaiting there

His footprints in the grass

Words pass by between the two

As cars drive heading home

It seems this year his Christmas time

Won't be had alone
