A Logical and Plausible Origin for all Religions

Space, the final frontier. Imagine just what we, as humans, would do if we had access to all of space. What would we do with it? No doubt we would wish to inhabit other planets. This is seen all throughout our culture and media. We presume that once we are capable of significant space travel and terraforming, we will inhabit other planets. Of course we would. Why wouldn't we? The only problem is that we're rather uncertain if it's even possible. It sure doesn't seem like it, but then again, nothing ever seems like it until we've done it. Only time will tell whether or not we learn to achieve the Star Trek era.

Now let's also consider what we would do if we could manipulate DNA to create any kind of creature we desire. No doubt there would be a huge backlash from religious organizations, but let's assume we learned these techniques. It would become the next age of art. To create the newest, most unique, most beautiful, most strange, most complex beings ever. While we're in the process of inhabiting other planets, why not simply use them for our new creations? We would no doubt attempt to replicate a concept of Earth on other planets with all new forms of life. Perhaps like Pandora from Avatar. How exhilarating!

What would happen, however, if a scientist decided to make a new breed of intelligent life? There would be a hugely significant uproar in our current day. Something intelligent is capable of learning and could become a significant threat. The populous would be torn about what to do with such creatures. We couldn't simply let them roam free and learn everything there is to know. In time, they could come and destroy us if they held prejudice against us for some reason. And yet, it seems wrong to merely destroy them as it would be much like destroying a human being.

Ethical quandaries would fill the air. Is it right to leave them? Is it right to let them fend for themselves? Is it right to kill them? Is it right to raise them as children and teach them all we know? As anyone can see today, ethics are a huge source of debate. Some will say yay, others will say nay. Some kind of ultimate decision would be made, but no doubt there would be others with their own private agenda going against it.

What I am saying, is that it's quite probable that this has occurred with a species before us. We could very well be those children of which others were confused as to what they should do with us. It sounds like a conspiracy theory right straight from a science fiction show, but let's just entertain the possibility for a moment despite its seeming absurdity. Let's look at our religions and the documentation we have from them, and let's decide if this is at all plausible.

In the Old Testament, the word translated as "God" is actually the Hebrew word Elohim. It is in plural form and literally means, "Those who came from the sky." Quite shocking, isn't it? The original King James Version uses this plural throughout but still translates it as "God." It reads, "Let us..." followed by many statements including, "make man in our own image." This phrase, "Let us" sounds a lot like a conversational decision. Together, they decided it should be done. And so they did it. They gathered the waters, they terraformed the planet's surface, they created plants and animals to fill it, and finally they decided they wanted to make something intelligent.

Most of us know this story, but the humans they created were not perfect. They did something wrong and were thus ostracized from the society. It gave indication that they should indeed fear the humans since they were not completely trustworthy. Later, we read that the "sons of God (Elohim) saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful, and began taking them for wives." It seems as if they were still living together on the planet. These were physical beings with physical urges and capabilities to procreate with a similar species made in their image.

Going further, the earth was filled with violence and wickedness such that the Elohim destroyed it. The Bible records that "God" was sorry for having made them. An all-knowing God would have seen this coming and would not have need of being sorry. Still, Those Who Came From The Sky had compassion and saved Noah and his family. Even later we read about a great tower that man began to create. The Elohim were worried because if the humans worked together, they could achieve anything. So they confounded the language and spread them about the earth. An omnipotent God would have no need of fearing men and their accomplishments.

Many other locations in the Old Testament shows very human-like emotions and understand from God. He learns, he repents, he's reasoned with. There are also quite descriptive images of flying chariots in Ezekiel. And all of this is only within Christianity. Look to other religions and you'll find many similar concepts of a world flood and especially of "Gods" having children with humans and having children like Hercules. The Bible actually referred to these children as the "men of renowned." Perhaps Hercules is indeed based upon truth and backed up even by the BIble. Perhaps all religions are based upon truth but we were not yet ready to understand the difference between gods and technologically advanced beings.

Now if we also consider the many issues we have with an all-knowing and all-powerful God, it is easily understood if we give him/them the same courtesy we give fellow humans. They're not perfect any more than we are. Seemingly they are more wise and intelligent, but certainly not perfect nor all-powerful. So now it makes sense that there is suffering in the world. They're just as stuck between a rock and a hard place as we are. They can't simply intervene any longer and they can't pose as gods for we'll see right through it. At least, many of us would. But they're obviously doing whatever they deem as being best at the moment given their own insight. And who really knows how much insight that truly is.

This leaves many questions unanswered. Many possibilities. Are they even still alive? Are there others? Can we communicate with them? Perhaps they can read our minds and thus "prayer" is truly beneficial. Maybe they can move in and out of different planes of existence so they could pop in and out wherever they want. Just what can they do? Just how advanced are they? Just how much do they currently impact our lives? Do they want anything from us? Will there truly be a judgement? What do they know of the afterlife or death? Do they walk among us in disguise? Can they truly heal people seemingly by magic like Jesus did? It sure would be amazing to meet one of them!

Alas, there are many possibilities and this is merely one of them. Perhaps there truly is a God. Perhaps the Elohim made us and yet there is still a God above them. Perhaps we did evolve and all the literature was made from lies and misunderstandings. Who really knows. I, for one, will keep my eyes out and remain open-minded to the possibilities. I don't want to find myself incapable of knowing the truth if presented to me simply because I delude myself into believing I already know it. I just hope their secret is one they wish to be revealed in due time. And perhaps they intend to reveal it soon. I sure hope so. I'm getting tired of the secrecy and the questions. I long to know the truth more than anything even if it is that we are the product of alien scientific experiments. I simply wish to know.
