Assignment:

Students select two YouTube videos and compose a comparison-contrast paragraph. Each student selects one example of a video that is likely to be considered a transformative use of copyrighted materials and one that is not transformative. In the paragraph, students describe each video and justify their selections, applying what they have learned about copyright and fair use.

Video Case Study: NYC Elementary School (answer these questions on your website)

1. Do you agree with the teacher that the use of music in these PSAs was a transformative use? Why or why not?

2. Why do you think these students chose to use copyrighted works in their videos? Why didn't they use royalty-free music? Why do you think they chose a picture of a Cadillac instead of a generic car image with no logo?

3. Do you think the students should have given credit to the original creators of the images they used in their videos? The students used Google Images -- how would they find out who the original creator is?

4. Which of the five principles are relevant in this case? What evidence supports your answer?

2. Do you think it makes a difference whether or not Project Look Sharp makes money from selling their curriculum materials? Why or why not?

3. In this video, the copyrighted images were used for purposes of critique and analysis. Would it make a difference to you if the images were used for purposes of illustration? Why or why not?

4. Which of the five principles are relevant in this case? What evidence supports your answer?

Grade 12's - Cisco Chapter 16: Advanced Security

This chapter reviews the types of attacks that threaten the security of computers and the data contained on them. A technician is responsible for the security of data and computer equipment in an organization. This chapter describes how you can work with customers to ensure that the best possible protection is in place.

Risks to computers and network equipment come from both internal and external sources. Risks include physical threats, such as theft or damage to equipment, and data threats, such as the loss or corruption of data.

  • Outline security requirements based on customer needs.

Read the web page above. Choose 1 emerging technology.

On your websites, write a 2 paragraph (minimum) feature on one of these.

    • 1 paragraph should briefly outline exactly what the technology is

    • 1 paragraph should outline the effects and changes it would make if it were to become widely used.

    • Embed at least 1 photo and provide a link back to the original article.

You can also consider writing about the availability of the technology, how easily it may or may not be adopted, the cost, the long-term potential it may have, etc.

Be prepared to discuss your article for Thursday's class.

Tablet Computing Assignment

Today marks the release of the long anticipated Blackberry Playbook

Tablet computing certainly has picked up steam in recent years, especially since the release of the Ipad, and subsequent Ipad 2.

Other companies have attempted to compete with options including the Samsung Galaxy Tab, HP Slate, and Asus Eee Pad to name a few.

In this 2 day assignment I would like you to compare and contrast 10 pro's and con's to using a tablet compared to a traditional PC or Notebook.

I would like you to focus on what you feel are the top 2 tablets on the market. I would like you research an upcoming tablet that has not been released yet. Please provide information and photos on each tablet.

The assignment should be at least 3 - 4 paragraphs with photos, specs and details.

    • 10 pro's and con's to tablets compared to traditional pc's

    • compare what you feel are the top 2 tablets (give spec's and reasons why you feel they are tops)

    • present an upcoming, unreleased tablet and discuss what advantages it will have over others
