Modular Survey

This course is designed to give students a broad understanding of several specific computer modules. These will include various aspects of graphic and website design that will form a good foundation for future studies in these areas.

Software used:

Google Sites: is a structured wiki offered by Google as part of Google Apps.

Adobe Photoshop: the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software

Adobe Fireworks: bitmap and vector graphics editor

Adobe Dreamweaver: is a web development application that provides visual manipulation of HTML

Google Sketch Up!: s a 3D modelling program designed for architects, civil engineers, filmmakers, game developers, and related professions.

Adobe Flash: is commonly used to create animation, advertisements, and various web page Flash components, to integrate video into web pages, and more recently, to develop rich Internet applications.

HTML: is the predominant language for web pages. It provides a means to create structured documents by creating structure for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists etc as well as for links, quotes, and other items.

Materials

Students should have access to the internet at home. They will be using a Google Group as the main hub of information for this class.

Expectations

1. Regular and punctual attendance.

If absent due to illness, parents must phone the school regarding their son/daughters absence. It is your responsibility to see me about assignments/quizzes/tests that were missed. Otherwise, students will receive a mark of 0% on missed quizzes and tests, and will lose 15% for each day late on assignments.

2. Thorough and punctual completion of all test and assignments.

Grades will be based on the completion of daily/weekly assignments and the mastery of skills and concepts, daily attendance, and attitude.

3. Proper respect for equipment and security.

Students must use class time constructively. Care and protection of the equipment and individual workplaces is essential and where abused, computer privileges will be removed.

Grading and Evaluation

Grades will be based on student assignments/projects and written and practical tests. All scores are accumulated over each term and will be weighted according to the following percentages.

Assignments/projects 50%

Final Project 25%

Quiz 15%

Attendance 10%

Format

This course is designed to be a practical one. Computer skills and knowledge will be developed through the completion of projects and assignments. I will post assignments and projects that students are to work on and their due dates in our Google Group, it will be the students responsibility to check these on a daily basis and stay up-to-date with any changes or updates. I give ample time to complete the work. Make sure you hand your work in before or by the due date as I apply a 15% penalty, per day, for late work.
