Assignment #1 - Create your first web page
1. Using Google Sites, create a basic website about yourself. You may include video clips, songs, pictures, or any other forms of media that you feel best represent who you are.
Your website should include the following:
- Your name and the period that you are in
- A brief write-up about yourself (your name, where you are from, your interests, favourite things, favourite subjects, etc)
- A Homework section where you will be posting links to your completed assignments.
These are the two main pieces of software we will be using and we will need sections on our sites for these.
You should use at least 2 columns in your page.
In 1 column you are to make a list of links to other students pages in your class. You will need to spell their name correctly, have the list in alphabetical order, and have the links all working properly. You can find the Class List here, feel free to copy and paste the names into your column. At the end of class, you will need find the students websites from their profiles in the members list and add links to their names.
Google Sites is an easy website to use. There are tutorials and help available within the site.
** Once you have a URL for your site, please update your Google Account under the "my account" section at the top right and add your URL to your profile so when somebody clicks on your Member Name, they will see the link for your site. *** ALSO - Please include your Twitter name in your profile ex. @BillyBob
Example Website: http://sites.google.com/site/aboutmeJosh
** Assignment 1 - Addition **
Post in the homework section of your site:
1. A new thing you have learned about making websites.
2. Something you have not learnt yet but would like to learn.
3. Who has made the best site in your opinion.
4. 2 things you could do to improve your site.
5 points.
Assignment #2 - Photoshop Header
First, read through: An Introduction to Photoshop Elements
Task: Create a header for your website that measures 800 pixels wide by 150 pixels high.
It should be a Dots Per Inch (dpi) of 72. This is ideal for web graphics.
Your header should match your sites colour scheme and should include your name, period, and class. If you have a separate name for you website, include that as well.
Keep in mind colour and contrast. If you have a very busy, colourful background, you will need to make your text stand out.
You can do this by adding a stroke or a drop shadow to your text.
Due by the end of class on Friday.
Assignment #3 - Photoshop Face
You will be taking the photo of your face from the hand-out folder and placing it on to a different body.
Simple activity to show you the basic features of photoshop.
Embed photo in your website homework section when finished.

Assignment #4 - Anti-Bullying Week Poster
Anti-Bullying Week Information
Create a poster in the dimensions of 8.5cm wide x 11cm high (standard paper size)
It should have a resolution of at least 100 dpi
Your poster should use words sparingly and should instead rely on images (manipulated by you in Photoshop) to convey the message you are trying to say.
We looked at examples of Banky's work in class and how he often conveys funny and important messages through images.
I do not want blatant images like this.
These are too obvious. People will look at this for 2 seconds and instantly understand what you are trying to say.
Our goal is to create an image that makes you stop and think.
This can be created through various methods, these could include: confusion, humour, controversy, etc.
I want your image to make people think. To make them stop and look. To make them wonder. To make them have to try and understand what it is that you are trying to say.
What do these pictures mean? What messages are they trying to pass along?
Think about this activity. Make multiple images. You can never have too many. We will choose your best one to put on the display.
Assignment #5 - 10 Changes + Storyline
Take 1 ordinary photo. You may take your own or you may use one you find online.
You will be required to make a storyline to go along with your photo. Use this example by the artist Miranda July as
inspiration.
Your second step in this exercise will be to use Photoshop to make 10 small changes to your photo. These could be like changing the colour of somebody's shirt, changing letters on a sign, adding or deleting items, to name a few.
You will then post the changed version of your photo and we will have to guess what 10 changes you have made.
It's important you write down your 10 changes somewhere so you will remember as well.
You will need to make a third photo that will serve as an answer key, highlighting the changes you have made.
I want your site to have two pages that you can click back and forth to compare images.
