There are a variety of approaches that a teacher has in his or her arsenal, moving in degrees from teacher-centered to student-centered methods. According to Burden & Byrd (2016), teachers should move gradually from teacher-centered to student-centered approaches. Although all approaches should be used at some point, as students get older, they should become more autonomous and be able to take charge of their learning. For this reason, it is vital for teachers to consider how to employ methods other than direct approaches when planning lessons.
