LOST AND FOUND
THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN IN HONOUR OF CHARLES MULHOLLAND, WHO PERISHED IN THE GREAT WAR AND WHOSE NAME APPEARS ON THE GARTCOSH WAR MEMORIAL.
Lost and Found
“Just a wee laddie away to war you went
A call to Arms your short life to be spent
Almost two years, not so much as a scratch
Alas to die on some god forsaken patch
You did not want to die, you did not ask to die
But you answered the call to kitcheners patriotic cry
Like so many, a generation lost
A war that was won, but at what cost
Rest easy dear Charles, forgotten no more
Your memory we shall cherish, honour and adore”
