Dug-out canoes

The Gartcosh dug-out canoe is currently part of the collection of the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow.

A DUG OUT canoe was a primitive form of water transport by loch, river or sea. As the name suggests, it was simply made by hollowing out a log or tree trunk and paddles were used to guide it through the water.
