LOCHEND ROAD
LOCHEND is the loch at DRUMPELLIER PARK. Whilst it remains the main thoroughfare in the locale, it was once the main road directly through Gartcosh prior to the building of the M73 motorway.
OLD GARTLOCH ROAD
Self-explanatory..... this road once went all the way to Gartloch ( crossing the railway line by bridge) but now stops at the railway line on the village side. A former villager who stayed in "the Brickworks Houses" on the Gartloch side of the railway recounted her late Mother's tales of " pushing the pram over the bridge and WALKING with a toddler in tow all the way to the clinic in Muirhead for check-ups almost every week for baby's first few months." ......phew......just imagine Anne Lowe's Hill with a 'high pram' and a toddler!!!
WOODNEUK ROAD/ WOODNEUK TERRACE
Historic estate and ironworks.
JARDINE TERRACE
One of the street names which reflects the village's historic links with Smith & McLean's. After the death of the founders the company was owned by George Jardine in partnership with Charles Mowbray.Manfred L.P. Jardine succeeded George Jardine after four years.
MOWBRAY CRESCENT
See above. Another street with a prominent link to Smith & McLean management.
BEARD CRESCENT
Another of the 1920's streets which commemorate a prominent figure in Smith & McLean's. Herbert Beard was a Works Manager and a resident of Gartcosh House.
AULDYARDS ROAD
Auldyards was one of the farms in the local area. The present Clubhouse is built around the site.
