S/E to M/R
Saturday: Newnes Glow Worm Tunnel, Bell’s Grotto and Wolgan View Canyons WNP (S/E) The curve of the tunnel excludes light, prompting the glow worm larvae lining the damp walls to “turn on” their bioluminescence. Upon exiting the tunnel we’ll visit two adjacent dry canyons which feature minimal water underfoot and are very easy, with no abseils or swims required. Ground may be wet and slippery. Time and party permitting, on the return journey we may stop at Gooches Crater, Upper Wollangambe River, BMNP (S/E) and explore the crater’s pagodas, caves, and wetlands, some off track.
Sunday: Du Faur Creek (Clatterteeth Canyon) BMNP, (M/M/W 12km & 250m climb) A great introductory canyon which can be traversed by li-lo, walking in shallow water and scrambling over boulders. Note: each person will require their own cotton covered li-lo and wetsuit and should be confident in water over their heads. Time & party permitting, we may do an excursion into Bell Creek which features classic canyon constrictions.
Monday: Pierces Pass to Victoria Falls, BMNP (M/R 9km & 850m climb) Starting at Pierces Pass we’ll descend to the Grose River via the Hungerford Track, walk to Burra Kurrain Flat (a campsite used in the construction of the Engineers Track), and then ascend to Victoria Falls, exiting at Victoria Falls Lookout. All on bush track, car shuttle required.
Tuesday AM: Dargan Creek Canyon, (S/M/W 3 km & 100m climb) This excellent introductory canyon has some reasonably sustained constrictions, and is not especially deep. We will be returning up the canyon to exit at the entry point. The trip requires confident intermediates, so an alternative option is to remain at the entry point and swim in the dam.
