The Black Allan Line is the straight line of the NSW/Vic border from Forest Hill to Cape Howe, Australia.
The following trip logs contain GPS files and photos of historic cairns created between 1870-72 by the surveyors Alexander Black and Alexander Allan.
Cairns are numbered from west to east, such that Forest Hill Cairn is called C1.0. Cairns with whole numbers (2.0, 3.0 etc) are numbered as per Alexander Black.
The smaller intermediate cairns are number 2.1, 2.2 etc. The label MC (MC9.3) means the cairn "implied" by the original survey map isn't present. This occurs in agricultural / forestry areas.
Over half of the cairns were located in October 2008 by Rob Horsfield / Karen Cody who walked the 175km border. Remaining cairns were located on trips in March 2009, Oct 2009, Dec 2009, Oct-Nov-Dec 2010, Mar 2011, and Nov/Dec 2011. Photos/coordinates: Kaz
