Study of optimized temperature setting of air-conditioned office in metropolitans in subtropical Taiwan

Brief:

Temperature setting of air-conditioned office is related to the thermal comfort of occupants, as many occupants are in a high-density space. Field surveys were conducted during the summer time. 481 occupants in 56 offices (classified into affair offices and service offices) samples in three metropolitans in subtropical Taiwan were collected. The results show that the standard effective temperatures (ET*) in the offices in the three metropolitans, Taipei (north), Taichung (central) and Kaohsiung (south) were at 25.1℃, 26.1℃, and 25.5℃ respectively. The comfort temperature in affair offices relates to the ceiling height, and in service offices relates to the planar density per-occupant by multiple regression analysis. The setting temperature in affair offices and service offices follows the analysis result in regression equations. These results provide a reference of temperature setting to achieve the energy saving.
