An indoor air quality monitoring protocol of air-conditioned offices − a review of Hong Kong experience

Brief:

Indoor air quality (IAQ) in air-conditioned offices is concerned as many people today spend most of their working indoors. A systematic, simple and practical IAQ monitoring protocol plays a key role of maintaining an acceptable working environment of air-conditioned offices, This study reviews, for statutory control of IAQ of Hong Kong air-conditioned offices, the development in the past two decades for an IAQ monitoring protocol. Protocol components such as sampling time period, monitoring location, measuring parameter are evaluated with respect to the uncertainty of assessed IAQ satisfaction of the statutory exposure limits from a set of chosen assessment parameters. Potential applications of Bayesian analysis for the IAQ assessment are reviewed. Means of screening process for IAQ satisfaction including occupant's complaints, IAQ indicators and representative assessment parameters are discussed. IAQ labeling systems with regional database development for IAQ prevalence are also discussed.
