IEQ Benchmarks for Offices

General Terms of Use

Brief:

To provide a user-friendly interface for calculating the occupants’ acceptance and compare relative performance of the office IEQ using these models in Hong Kong, a computer calculator has developed for free use by the Department of Building Services Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This tool is tested running in MS Window XP (ver 2002) platform. With input of several assessed parameters of an office, including the air temperature (°C), relative humidity (%), mean radiant temperature (°C), air velocity (m/s), CO2 concentration (ppm), illuminance level (lux), noise level (dBA), activity level (Met), and minimum allowed clothing value (clo), the tool calculates the predicted occupants’ acceptance for thermal comfort, indoor air quality, noise, illuminance levels and thus the total IEQ. By compared with the typical air-conditioned offices in Hong Kong, the concerned office environment is benchmarked with a 5-star rating system.
