Study of indoor formaldehyde emission diluted by ventilation

Brief:

Building materials were assumed as the main source of formaldehyde emission in the indoor environment. But cooking some Chinese medicinal cuisines also emits formaldehyde via their additives, especially after boiling. This study proposes an appropriate ventilation rate to dilute the high concentration formaldehyde emission while cooking. Scaled chamber experiment detects the concentration of formaldehyde emission before and after the water has been boiled at 80℃ in order to assess the ventilation rate of dilution. Based on the ventilation rate of dilution, the ventilation velocity and the ventilation route are simulated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to obtain an appropriate size of windows or doors in natural ventilation and the energy consumption in mechanical ventilation in some real scale indoor spaces. These results can help achieving a healthy and comfortable indoor environment quality.
