Hypnosis is a process of “you!” causing a mental state of increased and intense concentration and relaxation.
During this state of alert and awake concentration and relaxation your mind is more open to helpful suggestions.
One way to get into this state also called a “trance state” is to use what I call the “relaxing eye roll”.
This is a three step process which follows a sequence:
1. Step 1 do One thing -Look up towards your eyebrows, all the way up.
2. Step 2 do Two things -While still looking up, A. close your eyelids and B. take a deep breath.
3. Step 3 do Three things-Exhale, letting out your breath, and let your eyes relax, and let your body float
Next you will concentrate on the floating sensation and at the same time concentrate on these three critical points:
1. For your body, smoking is a poison. [ you can substitute any bad thing hurting you or others in the long run]
2. You cannot live without your body.
3. To the extent that you want to live, you owe your body respect and protection.
If you can keep in mind these three points and make the commitment to respect your body, you have within you the power to have smoked your last cigarette.[or stop any other bad behavior, thought , emotion or relationship]
Notice how this strategy puts the emphasis on what you are for, respect and protecting your body, rather than on what you are against. It is natural for you to protect your body against the poison of further smoking.
When you make this commitment to respect and protect your body you can apply it towards other things like eating or drinking or using drugs or using or doing too much of anything, or any bad or dangerous or painful habit or practice, including your relationships with other people, anything or anybody that you do or use over and over again that may in the long run hurt you, or cause pain and suffering, for you or others.
For this kind of exercise to work you need to do this as much as you can, at least 10 time per day, like every 1 or 2 hours. At first this exercise takes a few minutes, but as you become more expert you can do in a matter of seconds.
The exercise is as follows:
1. Get comfortable sitting or lying down, take a few deep and slow breaths, with practice you will be able to this standing or doing other things like walking, or waiting in line or at any free moment.
2. You are going to follow a sequence of counting to three. At one, you do one thing, at two, you do two things, and at three you do three things. At One: look up towards your eyebrows; at Two, close your eyelids and take a deep breath; and at Three, exhale, let your eyes relax, and let your body float.
3. Make your concentration and relaxed state stronger and deeper by continuing to focus and feel the floating feeling as you also find, focus and feel your breathing over and over again. Feel the floating sensation and feel breathing sensations, over and over, and again and again.[don’t judge, change or control your breathing]
4. When it feels right, and only you can judge when the time is right, concentrate on the three critical points:
A. For your body, not for you, smoking is a poison.
B. You need your body to live.
C. You owe your body respect and protection.
When you are ready, back yourself out of this relaxed and concentrated state by counting backwards like 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
