7.26.12 Outline to dealing with emotions
Diagnostic Phase:
1. Become aware of the emotion and its mind-body origins, what thoughts and body sensations it generates, become mindful of this
2.Become aware of the object it attaches to, a thought, a body sensation, a relationship with a person, or a thing, or a substance, and distance yourself from it
3. become aware of the thinking distortions related to the emotions
Treatment Phase:
1. Mindfully accept and allow the feeling without further emotional reaction or cognitive changes, and the feeling will dissolve away and burn itself out
2. apply antidotes eg patience , kindness, forgiveness for anger to the emotion
3. last resort is to discharge the feeling in thought, or actions carefully without harming self, other or things
